Of course, we have to start off with a lovely story: the Wall Street Journal reports that Donald Trump’s been caught red-handed, connected directly to the hush money sent to former mistresses.
Then it’s onto the two ongoing big stories: horrific fires in Northern and Southern California, and the elections grinding on in Florida, Arizona, and Georgia. Both the NAACP and a passel of retired generals have weighed in against GOP interference.
A review of the numerous headlines on Trump’s efforts to alter immigration policy by presidential proclamation, and his loss in the 9th Circuit court on his efforts to undercut DACA.
A sprinkling of good news (Ruth Bader Ginsberg already back and work! Thousands in the street protecting Mueller!), then D.D. Guttenplan with his new book on revolutionaries rejuvenating our republic.

Here’s an artifact from the 1960s when exit polls really mean’t something (must have been the superior technology they had back
then, eh?).
Walter Cronkite’s CBS, like the other networks, had a poll system they used to forecast elections and get early “scoops” on the results, when they could, which was often.
Many races were called accurately with well under 50% of the votes cast.
Mis-called races were rare.
In 1980 the tv networks caused an uproar when they called the Reagan race around 5PM PT, causing many voters to stay home, which affected a number of other races.
After public complaints about early predictions in the 1980 election, the networks all started giving their results only AFTER pols closed in a state, so as not to affect the final vote.
I remember this specifically (I was 29 that year and following politics closely).
But back in the 60s, CBS called their own poll system, “Vote Profile Analysis”.
