John Lennon said it best in "Imagine" in my opinion. Makes me cry every time. This last year was the very worst yet in my sixty-some years, at least for me personally, but it wasn't so bad that I failed to notice that I was in a handbasket race to hell with the rest of the world. May the new year allow us all to have a chance to demonstrate the very fine finest facets of our nature. Peace and Love and Rock and Roll, Forever!!!

May the new year bring random and deliberate acts of peace, kindness, and love.
And may it spread to governments, beginning with my own government.
There can be no better purpose or goal.
The crazed killers have simply got to go!

Peace is necessary. The earth is dying; we have to save it. No time for selfish, pinhead, backward troglodytes enriching themselves in wealth and power at the expense of others. No time to despair (or chuckle) that it is only human nature and can't be changed. (We can't afford mental and moral laziness.) It has to be changed and we have to be the ones to do it. We have to cut through hypocrisy and assert the stark truth.
We the people cannot allow ourselves to be enticed by gifts of comfort and sentimentality and mind-drugs by those who would bribe us into acquiescence to their one-dimensional obsession - greed and it's Siamese-twin war. We did it before - many times - and look where we are now. Look at the state of democracy, of community, of the earth. We haven't been tough enough and we always want to rest. The troglodytes are always there to exploit our weaknesses and lull us into passivity with our desire for just a little comfort. (Comfortable life, easy thoughts.)
We have to derive and sustain energy and focus through vital community of purpose --- Let's hear it for Brad and for Brad Blog.
Let's help make 2007 the beginning of sustained peace and growing up to what we need to do.

...and I'll pitch for a monthly contribution to Brad Blog. That's the way I do it. It just comes out of my PayPal account at the beginning of the month. I don't have to put it off; I don't have to say to myself, "Oh, I'd love to but I just can't right now." No, I create good karma at the beginning of each month, help make this world a better place, and help sustain (in a small way) the online community I love --- and it's no trouble at all to me.
I'm not a wealthy man (to understate it), but a small monthly contribution adds up to a pretty decent amount for the year.
Works for me and it might work for others.

To elaborate on #6 and "mind-drugs"...Even fear can be a mind-drug, a refuge from thinking, a method of exploitation (Big Brother)...or it can be a spur to action. It's a matter of your stance toward freedom, what it means to you.
In regard to progressive radio. It is so important for it to exist everywhere. And when the stations are saved, don't let them slip into the morass of "cool" which starts out liberating and ends in melding into commercial, manipulative culture.

2006 was a tough year, no doubt, and ended with me feeling down. 3,000 dead American soldiers. The joke that was Saddam's trial. The hurried execution (I know Saddam had a lot of things he could have spilled about many people in the Bush Administration, and some who were in it in the past). Sigh.
But, the good thing is that, thanks in great part to your work, Brad, more and more people are becoming aware of the problems with e-voting, and I'm hearing a louder and louder chorus of people demanding paper ballots. Here's to much progress in that area in 2007.

Except (sigh) to correct myself in #6 when I said, "The earth is dying." As Utah Phillips said, "The earth is not dying. It is being killed, and the people killing it have names and addresses."
Arry out.

"It's been a long December, and there's reason to believe maybe this year will be better than the last..." (Counting Crows)
Here's hoping for a safer, saner world in 2007 - and to knowing that we're all doing our best to be a part of the changes for the better.
There are a lot of good hearts and courageous spirits here, and I'm really proud to be associated with all of y'all.
I've been thinking about something for awhile. I kinda wondered if this would be a good time to approach the idea of a creating central meeting place - a chatroom maybe - where we could talk real time. I know Brad doesn't have time to create something like that, but I believe I may know a place to create such a haven - if there is enough interest. I'd have to contact the owner of the site first, but given the nature of the website he already has, I think he'd welcome such an effort.
What do y'all think? Any interest?

Hi KBE! Nice to hear from ya! I think it would be great if there were a place Bradvillians could check in at when they drop by BradBlog, where they might exchange views, dirty jokes, whatever with kindred spirits who also happen to be in the neighborhood about then. Being 6 hours ahead of EST could make it interesting for me, or maybe not... Please let us know if it comes to pass, and include instructions for the 'puter-impaired. Thanks, and may the new year treat us all gently and kindly. Love and Peace, Bob in Prague

Happy New Year to you all.
My humble thoughts captured in a New Years message to Washington DC...
I am an American mother
Protective of all I hold dear
My rights, privacy, and even my children
Being taken for reasons unclear
You’ve sold your souls to the devil
No longer willing to do what’s right
To hell with me and the land of the free
Special voting held late at night
Tell me what price my son brought
For the year that he spent in Iraq
Invading at will, orders to kill and
Ignoring him when he came back
Illegal wars with no end in sight
Bills lining your pockets the norm
No oversights, screw human rights
With Katrina - you killed, not the storm
My safety ignored at the borders
And you’re selling away my land
Crime after crime, I believe it’s time
For this mother to take a stand
Lady Liberty has joined beside me
Two mothers with children in need
We see through the lies and your corporate ties
What a shameless depth of greed
We are ready to take to the streets
Informed and within our right
We won’t be alone, our numbers have grown
We The People, will bring forth the fight

Hey czaragorn, nice to see you too!
Okay, I'll copy and paste this info again when/if Brad starts an open thread, since this one's falling down on the list.
For now, those who want to can go to www.earthcommcenter.com and take a look around. You'll have to register to get to the live chat rooms (I think?). I'm looking at the "Fireside Lounge" as the starting point, then if we have enough interest, I'll email the owner and see what he thinks about opening up a special room for us. The site's kinda empty most of the time, but that could change.
This is a spinoff from an old chatsite I used back in the 90's. If someone has a better idea, please feel free to jump in.
