Wonder if the former GOP U.S. House Majoriy Leader is still smiling.
From Austin American-Statesman moments ago…
The three-year sentence was on the charge of conspiring to launder corporate money into political donations during the 2002 elections.
On the charge of money laundering, DeLay was sentenced to five years in prison, but that was probated for 10 years. That means he would serve 10 years’ probation.
DeLay was taken into custody but he was expected to be released as soon as he posted an appeals bond.
UPDATE: WaPo now has more, including details on the only one to testify on behalf of DeLay at the sentencing hearing today: former Republican U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert (who has his own legal issues).

The man who would be speaker is probably out on bail by now, pending appeal.
He’s probably watching John Boehner on TV, thinking about what could have been.
If only William Rehnquist had knocked off a few years earlier, John Roberts would have been able to turn the country to fascism in time to spare the Hammer.
Oh, well. At least Tom got to murder all those people over in Iraq in the name of Oil. For that, he will forever be loved by the Republican base.
Here’s to Tom.
DeLay is out of $10,000 bail. Whether he actually spends even one day in prison will depend on the outcome of his appeal.
He got off cheap with 3 years. Corruption at the level of power and influence held by DeLay should never be that cheap.
I hope his 3 years will be “interesting times” for him.
He’ll never serve a day in jail or prison. I’ll bet anyone a dinner on it. His conviction will be overturned on appeal. Not necessarily because of any legal issues, but because IOKIYAR.
Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-IL) also spoke on DeLay’s behalf.
Dennis Hastert is a traitor ,google Sibel Edmonds and see what see has on Dennis Hastert.
Steve Heller @ 4:
Though we might be hearing from you today 🙂 I’m just wondering why it took you longer than usual to get here! 🙂
I’m a busy man, Brad! I don’t have time to spread my negative, doom-‘n-gloom rhetoric only at BradBlog. I’ve got things to criticize, people to mock, opinions of others to deride. I can’t just drop everything and rush her to spread my bile and vitriol whenever you post something! 😉
Keep up the good work, my good friend Brad.
Citizens United arrived to late for Delay?

It’s “too late,” and it remains to be seen.
What was the Michael Douglas line?
“I use to say greed was good. Now, it’s apparently legal.”
