Today’s top news item, in my mind anyway, is a column written by Bob Koehler who is an editor for Tribune Media Services and is a friend and fellow Election Integrity activist. Today Bob wrote an article about another friend and activist who many of you know, Bernie Ellis. Bernie was one of the movers and shakers in the EI movement in Tennessee and one of the organizers of the “Gathering To Save Our Democracy” in Nashville in 2004. I hope you read and enjoy Bob’s article and that it moves you to help Bernie. Thank you.
In other news the Virginia House of Delegates rejected a proposed amendment from the Governor to a bill that would require a phase-out of DRE voting machines and replacement by optical-scan machines. The Governor wanted the legislation to not take effect until July, 2008. If Virginia can vote to ban DREs why is Congress dragging their feet?

Bernie’s Farm tells the story of how the pharma industry is afraid of medical pot. If it can be grown without them they loose profit. It is greed in action.
Please read about Bernie Ellis’s plight (top story, “Devil Weed”) and help him out if you can. Bernie is a real American patriot. He is one of the leaders of the election reform movement, having organized the first national get-together of activists in Nashville in April of 2005. I believe that his advocating for election reform is the main reason that the Feds are now trying to grab his farm. I’m gonna list some sites below, but, unfortunately, I am a humble bluesman, and, after several attempts, can’t seem to figure how to paste a link in Bradblog. So I ask you to do your own pasting of addresses to get to these sites.
Here’s Nashville’s Channel 4 Bernie story that ran two weeks ago:

Here’s a Democratic Underground thread that you could kick for Bernie. That would also do him some good.

Also, I’m honored to be one of the acts (Delicious Blues Stew, http://www.deliciousbluesstew.com) on the bill at a show in Nashville (April 25 at the Belcourt) to help save Bernie’s farm. Along with the incredible and beautiful singer Jonell Mosser and top Nashville guitarist Mike Henderson, we’ll be lettin’ the good stuff rip. Drop by for that show if you’re in the Music City area. Meet some major entertainers who’ll no doubt show up. The show is sponsored by NORML (National Orginizatin for the Reform of Marajuana Laws) and should be a real kick.

After our votes are counted and the elected take their positions, they violate the law if they use their federal job as a weapon to attack political opponents.
Recent congressional hearings have led to an official investigation of the administration for massive violations of the Hatch act.
After the vote … then what?
