He said that Hamas issued a press report, recently, praising the Dubai government, the one The Dick and The Bush want to take over up to 21 US ports, for giving Hamas big sums of money.

And the UAE did not deny nor denounce Hamas for its press release.

OK, I'be been a big supporter of Sibel's case being made public for long time, but the description above is not concise enough, in my humble opinion, to get enough Americans to understand the issue. In fact, if it's more than a four or five word phrase, you may lose your audience.

So I think it would be good to have a soundbite or phrase that people can digest to understand this.

Something like "Turkey-Al Qaeda Gate" or "Turkish Bribery Scandal".

I gladly signed the petition. Someday Sibel will be allowed to tell all she knows. I wish someone in the blogosphere would donate permanent web space to her in order to help her start and maintain her own NSWC web site. Her cause needs constant exposure. So far, BradBlog has been doing an excellent job in keeping her cause before the eyes of the public, but it would be nice if there was a permanent and prominently displayed NSWC link at the top of BradBlog and other sites.

I have to post this observation. There is more and more common ground among independent media. I'm seeing common stories, common references, and more interaction between independent media entities than ever before. I'd say a year ago, each independent media source was sort of an island to themselves. I think there's something big happening with independent media, and corporate-controlled media is going down. Independent media is starting to link together more, "talk to each other", and they are where the real news is, that's been kept from us from the corporate-controlled media. People are starting to realize what's going on in the mainstream media. And the people who wanted to take over the MSM have, but they've sunk all their energy and $$$ into it and didn't anticipate another alternative - independent media - to show up so soon and so strong. I don't think there's anything they can do about it, either.

About all I can say about Ms. Edmonds is she is a true patriot and one which needs all levels of protection. I think instead of all talk most of those here and elsewhere begin the process of capital acquisition and provide security for her and WHATEVER else she needs to be secure and protected from the crap the gov goons are about to unleash. Dear Rep. Conyers:

Merry Christmas on this Christmas Eve. I keep reading now about government officials, whistleblowers, who are told that they can't talk because the relevant information has been "classified". It seems that their only recourse might be if a Congressional Committee were to call them in to testify, in camera.

I believe this may be something that may go all the way back to the National Security Laws put through by Harry Truman in the late 1940's. Lately, I have been wondering if this law should be amended as follows:

When an appropriate government official classifies certain information, shouldn't there be the explicit requirement that this has to be done for, and only for, clearly furthering the national interest? Otherwise, sometimes there is the temptation to classify certain information only for the purpose of protecting other government officials who may have done something wrong, even having committed a crime.

Thus, the whistleblower should then have the opportunity to file suit before a regular U.S. District Court and ask the Court to make a determination, the proceedings otherwise in camera, as to whether the other government official issued the classification order for the purpose of furthering the national interest, or whether the other government official issued the classification order merely for the purpose of concealing criminal activity.

If the Court finds the latter, then the Court should order two things:

1. The previous classification order is null and void. This would mean that it had no legal effect from the beginning.

2. The appropriate United States Attorney should then be ordered to commence a criminal investigation into abuse of the National Security Act. This would be in addition to the other crime otherwise being covered up.

This would be a way to bring some balance into a government that otherwise seems to be going, as they say, "third world".

I smell a rat with this Sibel Edmunds thing. I think she comes out saying the 9/11 attacks were exactly as the official version of events, and that the government could have stopped them. Someone probably a cia or lowly government type blocked the information. The president is dumbfounded by this underhandedness, and swears to get to the bottom of it, blah de blah de blah. Russell Tice, who's a member of the NSWBC and has been the main whistleblower in the NSA spying controversy is a Republican.

I'm not sure I get your point. Do you think the US government did the deed on 9/11? I mean, it's possible and may even be likely but I have no proof of that. There is proof that the administration knew of the possibility that planes would be used as weapons and that red flags were up that an attack was going to happen. National security as an issue to be used to gag a person from exposing corruption, is a corruption itself! It is 'do as we say, not as we do'.

The Executive Director of the 9/11 Commission states the following:

”Why would Iraq attack America or use nuclear weapons against us? I'll tell you what I think the real threat (is) and actually has been since 1990 --- it's the threat against Israel,” Zelikow told a crowd at the University of Virginia on Sep. 10, 2002, speaking on a panel of foreign policy experts assessing the impact of 9/11 and the future of the war on the al-Qaeda terrorist organization.

”And this is the threat that dare not speak its name, because the Europeans don't care deeply about that threat, I will tell you frankly. And the American government doesn't want to lean too hard on it rhetorically, because it is not a popular sell,” said Zelikow.

The statements are the first to surface from a source closely linked to the Bush administration acknowledging that the war, which has so far cost the lives of nearly 600 U.S. troops and thousands of Iraqis, was motivated by Washington's desire to defend the Jewish state.

Philip D. Zelikow is Executive Director of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, otherwise known as the 9-11 Commission.

* He and Rice worked closely together in the first Bush White House as aides to former National Security Adviser Brent Scowcroft. Zelikow was director of European security affairs, and Rice was senior director of Soviet and East European affairs, as well as special assistant to the president. Rice reportedly hired Zelikow. Both started in 1989 and left in 1991.

* A few years after leaving the White House, Zelikow and Rice wrote a book together called, "Germany Unified and Europe Transformed: A Study in Statecraft."

* The two associated again when Zelikow directed the Aspen Strategy Group [2] http://www.aspeninstitute.org , a foreign-policy strategy body co-chaired by Rice's mentor Scowcroft. Rice, along with Dick Cheney and Paul Wolfowitz, were members.

* Former White House terrorism czar Richard Clarke says he briefed not only Rice and Hadley, but also Zelikow about the growing al-Qaida threat during the transition period. Zelikow sat in on the briefings, he says.

* A month after the 9/11 al-Qaida attacks, President Bush appointed Zelikow to the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, which is chaired by Scowcroft.

* Zelikow's regular job, the one he'll return to after the commission releases it final report in late July, is director of the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia. The center is dedicated to the study of the presidency, and maintains contact with the Bush White House, which fought the creation of the commission.

Kristen Breitweiser, a 9/11 widow, insists Zelikow has a "clear conflict of interest." And she suspects he is in touch with Bush's political adviser, Rove, which she says would explain why the White House granted him, along with just one other commission official, the greatest access to the intelligence briefing Bush got a month before the 9/11 suicide hijackings.

Phillip David Zelikow was appointed to the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board (PFIAB) on October 8, 2001, by President George Walker Bush.

I have been saying for 5 YEARS that the person MOST RESPONSIBLE for 9/11 is Condi Rice. SHE was the National Security Advisor (NSA) before & on 9/11. What is the MAIN JOB of the NSA? To advise on national security! Does anyone besides George Bush Jr. think that she did a GOOD JOB advising on national security before 9/11???

Rice unable to recall terror alert

SHANNON, Ireland --- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says she can't recall then-CIA chief George Tenet warning her of an impending al-Qaida attack in the U.S., as a new book claims he did two months before the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

"What I am quite certain of is that I would remember if I was told --- as this account apparently says --- that there was about to be an attack in the United States, and the idea that I would somehow have ignored that I find incomprehensible," Rice said.

Bob Woodward's book State of Denial outlines a July 10, 2001 meeting among Rice, then President George W. Bush's national security adviser,Tenet and the CIA's top counterterror officer.

"What I'm quite certain of, is that it was not a meeting in which I was told there was an impending attack," Rice said.

Rice added to the confusion Monday by strongly suggesting that the meeting may never have occurred at all — even though administration officials had conceded for several days that it had. A State Department spokesman said later that while the meeting definitely happened, Rice and Tenet disputed Woodward's characterization of her response.

Rice acknowledged that the White House was receiving a "steady stream of quite alarmist reports of potential attacks" during that period but said the targets were assumed to be in the Middle East.

Her use of the word “alarmist” rather than “alarming" is the tell.

This is her admission that she put these reports under the category of “conspiracy theory” – in line precisely with Rumsfeld’s instructions:

"Mr. Woodward writes that in the weeks before the Sept. 11 attacks, Mr. Tenet believed that Mr. Rumsfeld was impeding the effort to develop a coherent strategy to capture or kill Osama bin Laden," wrote Sanger. "Mr. Rumsfeld questioned the electronic signals from terrorism suspects that the National Security Agency had been intercepting, wondering whether they might be part of an elaborate deception plan by Al Qaeda."
