AFP reports on the latest NEWSWEEK poll on the most-vacationed-“President”-ever, George W. Bush’s handling of Iraq (where 1,833 U.S. Troops have died since this debacle began, at least 38 of whom have been killed in just the last 10 days!):
The findings, release on Saturday, represented the President’s lowest rating on Iraq ever, which thus far has hovered above the 40 per cent mark.

Now it appears they’re going after their political opponents with violence (maybe). Former Brit Foreign Secretary Robin Cook has died (or been killed) while out for a walk. He was only 59 years old. He was the one who announced shortly after the London bombings that "Al Qaeda" was invented by America, that it was the name of a database of jihadists we could recruit to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile another Labour Party member who opposes the war is in a hospital in London hanging on for dear life. Makes ya wonder how far these guys might go to silence opposition here in America. I suspect their outrageousness was even too much for John Ashcroft, inspiring him to resign his office before the worst came.
If they get violent we have to steel ourselves for the crisis. There’s no telling how it will play out, except that Bush & Co. will be defeated. Extremism in defense of The United States of America is no vice.

I have a suspicion that John Ashcroft stepped aside in order to be nominated to the Supreme Court when Rehnquist steps down. Sounds crazy right? Just crazy enough to fit the M.O. of these freaks.

The U.K. memo leaked to the British press in the first days of May, 2005 has been receiving attention typical of the U.S. media today. For fear of reprisal, i.e., being called left-wing liberals, information like this gets barely inconspicuous placement in the newspapers, and achieves the status of a passing thought for just a few seconds on television. “Bury this one” says the editor, who must answer to the ‘chief’…and so a small, non-descript article is placed somewhere on the pages that typically line the bottom of bird cages everywhere. Whether it was the newspaper that had the “gonads” to risk everything in the Watergate debacle, or even a local newspaper reporting about abuses in the church, the media had, at one time, been seen as the source of the breaking story. Now they are seen as pandering to whoever can create the biggest stink. In the old days, this tiny piece of information might have made front page news: “U.K. MEMO INSINUATES THAT BUSH MAY HAVE MANIPULATED IRAQ INTELLIGENCE”. But I guess that fear can reduce even the boldest newspapers and TV reporters to sniveling co-conspirators.

Hi, Doug #6 – It all sounds too good to be true. Even if it is true, Bushco will all start laughing, ignore it and then start fighting it like hell. Supposing it is true, will Bushco. get "suspended" from the job, like Novak? Or do they get to stay, pretend they are legit’ until trial, some ten years down the road? Oh, how I wish they were all arrested immediately. Bushco on vacation doesn’t seem worried???
Peggy: They can’t ignore it, if McDougall tries to interfere in the investigation ala Bloody Sunday, Night of the Thousand Knives, officers and federal agents will take them kicking and screaming into custody.
You have to simply remember that it all comes down to the rule of law. Even the greatest of criminals, can not escape the law.
By the way if pardons come out, they can take the president in for being a co-conspirator. That is according to the text under 794(c) which constitutes the most serious offense…. **treason**

Jen: Most of the real information is coming from Tom Henegan, Sherman Skonick and FBI Official Jason Leopold.
It is not Flocco, Flocco got it from these sources.
Flocco has been reporting the news for a while, but he has questionable conservative ties and he is not the source for the info. The reason they hacked Flocco and the other guy is these two are conspiracy pots, so no one was likely to believe them.
But by hacking the websites I understand they have been supressing the news, to try to throw everyone off the trail.

34% approval only adds more credence to those who already have evidence of GOP vote fraud.
You see, "polls" like the one that says 34% approval, imply directly asking people. Like "exit polls"! You know, those polls where the media asked 2004 presidential voters who they voted for, and the "exit polls" showed Kerry won the popular vote by 5 million? Just the facts, no conspiracy. The "exit polls" showed Kerry won.
Here’s how this country works, though. Bush wins the "final count" by 3 million, and then they work backwards to explain (lamely) that the U.S. "exit polls" were wrong for the first time ever in history. They said that the pollsters for the first time in history asked too many Kerry voters. Why were there so many Kerry voters to ask?
In the Ukraine, the "exit polls" showed one winner, and the "final count" had another winner. The U.S. mainstream media was all over this 24×7! And the Ukraine had another vote, because the "exit polls" didn’t match the "final count". Even the Republicans said that something funny was going on in the Ukraine! And our mainstream media followed in step. But, our msm IGNORED the American "exit polls" being 8 million off from the "final count".

The region’s transit systems maintained heightened security measures Thursday in the wake of more bombings in London, but several Chicago Transit Authority riders are concerned the agency is not communicating well with passengers during bomb scares.
CTA customers pointed to an incident Monday night when someone called in a bomb threat for the Red Line’s Roosevelt stop, prompting Chicago police to close the station for 45 minutes. The incident snarled the commutes of thousands of riders as Red Line trains were switched to elevated tracks, jamming those routes and leaving hundreds waiting on platforms, sweating it out on stalled trains or looking for different routes home.
Although commuters said they understood post-Sept. 11 security issues, they still thought they could have been told what was going on.
In e-mails, Web logs and interviews this week, several riders said when they asked CTA employees what was happening, many of them didn’t know. In other cases, riders said CTA employees tried to pass along information on the public address system, but the sound quality was so poor passengers couldn’t understand what they said.
Though the communication issues merely exasperated a nightmarish afternoon commute, they could create a significant problem if a real attack occurred, riders said."

I was thinking that Bushco has seriously upset a lot of people who are in a position to gather evidence and expose these criminals, bring them to trial and put them away forever. I think the operative word is "forever". No one wants Bushco to get away with a slap on the wrist — no, serious jail time is required to ensure it never happens again.

Maybe you got something, Doug. Maybe not. Trouble is, not everything is part of the plot. (As in plot thickening.) For example, if someone doesn’t know something is disinformation, then that person will not be deliberately quashing disinformation. It just looks like it.
I’m trying to get worked up about the bomb angle, but I don’t see that it was very effective – for anything, really. Sort of a wimpy way to scare Fitzgerald. The CTA explanations for poor communication is so right on it is almost funny. Poor sound system, hundreds waiting, CTA employees not knowing what’s going on. Yup, that’s exactly the way it would happen 9 times out of 10 (or maybe 10 times out of 10).
Appreciate your tireless work, and you may be gathering the threads, but I need more convincing on a lot of this stuff.

What is hilarious is that the democrats who idealize the republicans have sent their message via Joe Biden that they think we should be sending more not less troops to Iraq. After voting for 30 years I have decided to join the majority party and ignore the whole fucked up mess, let them and this joke of a country all go to hell. I just want to remind folks of the purpose of disinformation. It’s to distract people, to divert energies. It’s a basic pragmatic tool and is certainly being used as we speak. Please keep it in mind.
We are trying to uncover the storyline, the plot. Good, necessary thing to do, but it can easily become a diversion – like television. What is needed is for *us* to make the story and we have to develop our own plot. Fitzgerald will not do it for us, although, of course, we have to develop our strategies based on what is happening. I’m convinced we have to raise the level of our activism to be much more in control of events. We should start thinking seriously how to do it.

#31 Peg C. You’re right about that – about the dice being loaded. Nevertheless, every major grass roots political movement has had to deal with loaded dice. (Look at what we just celebrated a couple of days ago – Voting Rights Act.)
I think, beyond necessary ongoing discussion, we have to build coalitions off the ‘net as well as on. Who has been particularly hurt, for example, by the fixed election? What groups of people? We have to talk to those people and make it clear how they have been hurt and effectively disenfranchised. (And we have to learn our lesson about DLC-type Democrats. We’ve wasted a lot of time hoping for the best.)
We have to learn dramatization and what hits the guts popularly. (What’s a story otherwise?) We have to tell our story in terms of democracy and cherished values first and foremost. We have to realize that every small success of bringing awareness to citizens has to be followed by another at the next level up. (And we have to know what those levels are.) The thing is to *build*.
And we have to put our lives into it because we all know our democracy is in grave and imminent danger and that we have no other choice.
Screw depression and powerlessness. Proactive and eyes on the prize (a clear vision) and knowing brothers and sisters are beside us in a just and necessary cause — what more can we ask for in life?!
