Enjoyed your filling in for Malloy program but had problems with one comment/analogy.
You repeated what I first heard on Bill Maher’s show which is that the GOP intransigence on raising the debt ceiling was like the Palestinians turning down the best deal they could hope for at Oslo. Regardless of whether *any* of that fits (which is arguable as the “generous” Oslo Agreement is thought of as otherwise by those who understand how Israel offered a generous portion of the miniscule fraction of territory to be RETURNED to the Palestinians), there is too much that is tragically dissimilar to be so flippant.
It seems the meme desired to be aimed at progressives is that the self-serving GOP (a known evil) is comparable to the indignities that the Palestinians have suffered. They deserve so much better.
Btw, would be comfortable with the analogy, “Boehner’s last minute temper tantrum was like the Israeli’s breaking the Gaza ceasefire and blaming it on the Palestians.”?
I would add that comparing Arafat’s “I would be killed if I accepted this” and then saying Boehner would not be killed to downplay the similarities is the wrong comparison.
Recent events in Norway show that people easily subject others to the death penalty for not buying into their worldview, and it’s anyone’s guess as to who will be blamed for “victimizing” them.
I heard July 21 program by podcast while waiting in Seattle airport to board plane home July 24 (Malloycast paid subscription since Apr 2009 and Nova M and AAR before that). Hearing Mike in person is worth the round trip plane fare and hotel cost.
OKeefe video release (deceptively edited at same time as full raw video not after deceptive video has influence on news cycle) was to delegitimize Medicaid with effect (OKeefe sponsors hope) of undermining support for keeping cuts out of debt ceiling increase. OKeefe and sponsors also trying to build support for states cutting Medicaid. The NPR doctored video got two people (unrelated Ron and Vivian Schiller) fired and led to cuts to NPR in the Paul Ryan kill medicare FY 2012 budget bill and in FY 2011 budget CR (that kept Fed govt open) in April. I’m as happy as Brad F. is that an OKeefe video release is ignored by MSM news orgs.

Dennis Ross writes that in July 2000 the “Palestinian interpretation” map in Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid of what Yasir Arafat rejected was “a partial proposal on territory and control of Jerusalem.” Mr. Ross later refers to an “Israeli interpretation” map that, according to Mr. Ross, represents “Clinton ideas or parameters” offered in December 2000. Mr. Ross takes credit as the “principal author” of these parameters or ideas after the Palestinians and Israelis requested the Americans to create negotiating parameters.
The only knowledge of “ideas or parameters” for negotiations Arafat had in September 2000 was what even Dennis Ross calls “a partial proposal on territory and control of Jerusalem.” Mr. Ross, and much of the American and world press, is effectively blaming Arafat for rejecting in September (and starting the violence that began Sept 29, 2000) what wasn’t even offered until December.
