Posting has been light as I’ve been on the road over the last several days due to a family event up here in the Great Pacific Northwest. In the bargain, I’m trying to sneak in some much needed off-the-grid time between now and the July 4th holiday. No doubt, however, I’ll be showing up here from time to time when I just can’t help myself.
Our friend Jon Ponder of Pensito Review and others will continue jumping in as they have been over the last several days, and as their time allows.
But for now, a quick heads up: I’ll be appearing live and in-studio from Portland tomorrow (Thursday) with the nationally syndicated and far-far Rightwinger Lars Larson. I’ve done his show several times, and a good rumble between him and me is usually in the offing. (He’s appearing, as I type this, tonight on Campell Brown’s CNN show, coincidentally, trying to smash up Obama on the desperate premise that he’s “arrogant.”)
Last time I was up in Portland, he and I went mano-a-mano live in-studio for two hours (the last hour of his local show, and the first hour of his nationally syndicated show), prompting David Edwards, who guest blogged my appearance for The BRAD BLOG that day, in late 2005, to write:
The contentious audio from that appearance is back here, if you’re interested.
We’ll see what tomorrow brings, but I hope you’ll tune in, call in, or whatever ya can — not that I don’t love taking on Lars’ usual wingnut callers!
I’ll be on his local Oregon/Washington show tomorrow (Thursday) at 2:30pm PT (call-in#: 866-HEY-LARS) and the nationally syndicated show beginning at 3:00pm PT (866-509-LARS). You can listen live here, if his show is not broadcast in your local area.
And no matter what happens, I’m happy to go on the record right now to say that Larson scores big points for having folks like me — who strongly disagree with just about everything he has to say — on his show. Wish one could say the same for cowards like O’Reilly, Hannity, Rush, et al., but oh well.
So, Kudos to Lars in advance. We’ll see how I feel about him tomorrow 😉 Either way, looking forward to it! You’ll let me know how I did, as usual!
POST-SHOW UPDATE: Old Lars was obsessed with the SCOTUS decision today lifting the ban on handguns in D.C.. So that, despite my own personal interests in stuff that actually matters (versus grist for cynical political divisiveness) is what we talked about, for what seemed to be the bulk of the show. It was his house after all, and I appreciate his generosity in welcoming me to it. We did get a few other things in here and there however.
I was on for the full final hour of his local show, and the first half-hour of his national broadcast. With commercials and news removed (courtesy of LarsLarson.com) the audio archive is just 50 minutes. Download the MP3 or listen online below…

Hey Brad – wasn’t it on LL’s show that you managed to run off Ann Coulter?
Good(ish) memory, Don. That was Ron Insana’s radio show, not Larson’s.
Larson is an Ann Coulter in and of himself. Minus the insane part. Hope you’ll tune in. Should be fun!
Welcome to Portland Brad! I’m going to try to catch you on LL.
Can you try to get on the local Air America show between 6-9 am (local hosts are Carl Wolfson and Thom Hartmann [only from 8-9 locally for Thom]) or Thom’s national show from 9-12? Portland’s lefties need a lot of educating on the elections issues.
Unfortunately, the best Dem candidate for Secretary of State, Vicki Walker, did not win. Former Senate Majority Leader, Kate Brown won the primary and is a shoe in for the November election (Dems “own” all the state offices).
Vicki Walker promised the Oregon Voters Rights Coalition to work for real voter reform and real auditing of elections. In 2007, HB 3270 was written to do that. However it got “gutted and stuffed” with a completely worthless bill that was intended to make citizens think that their voting rights were being protected.
As the Oregon Legislature was working diligently to wrap up its 2007 session the Senate passed the seriously revised and flawed HB 3270 over the strong objection of the Oregon Voter Rights Coalition. The bill was then signed into law by Governor Kulongoski.
HB 3270 employs an “audit of precincts” method to hand count the ballots processed by a small percentage of optical scan machines after an election. Oregon’s Director of Elections, John Lindback, sponsored this approach under the supervision of Secretary of State Bill Bradbury, after Lindback had been given carte blanche authority by the bill’s original sponsor, Rep. Mitch Greenlick, to rewrite the bill.
Oregon VRC supported the original version of the bill, which provided a statistically designed “sample of ballots” method, and advocated for its passage. After the bill had been turned over to Director Lindback, Oregon VRC continued to advocate for a “sample of ballots” approach and provided the House rules committee a new version of the bill. Unfortunately, Lindback’s version passed.
Oregon now has an election audit law that does nothing more than spot check a small percentage of machines and which gives a roughly 60% level of confidence that the outcome wouldn’t change if a hand count were conducted. Given the marginal benefits of such a poorly designed audit, the mandate of HB 3270 now looms as a waste of time and resources for future elections.
In a forum for Women Democrats, Kate Brown took credit for HB 3270. Either she doesn’t understand its flaws …. or she does. I don’t know which is worse.
So BradBlog and Oregon Voters Rights Coalition have a steep road ahead.
Oh, crikey. I thought this started at one. I was up all night with movies, and then couldn’t sleep through the Addington Yoo hearing. I’m bumping into walls. Will I have the fortitude for this?
I’m too damn tired. I agree with Lars about the guns prohibition. I hate agreeing with wingnuts, but there you have it.
That’s a senator calling Seattle “socialist”? Aaaaaagh!
The end is so nigh….
What? Do we just get dead air during some commercials or…?
I guess so….
“We won”!!!!! Good. Now we can bug out.
He’s got yer number now, Brad! Just keep talking right over the top of you, never let you get in an unimpeded word…. It was his only chance and he damn well took it….
Wow Brad! I heard you on Lars today trying to interpret the constitution. Honestly, if I didn’t have proof otherwise, I would question whether you actually can read.
Yeah, millions of “detritus” humans dead horribly because of that sorry fuck in the White House. “Savage Nation”… how appropriate.
Are you coming back on or not??????
I don’t know what that was, but I can’t keep listening to that crap coming from Savage…. I don’t know if you pop in there with Lars at some point or whut, but… it’s too awful for me today.
Yuuuuuuuuuck! 🙁
Any mp3 Archive? Relevant clip[s]?
I was *Babysitting the Senate* on (CSPAN 2) on FISA.
Coming momentarily, Phil. Have been on the road all day. Sit tight…
