Fidel Castro, Cuba’s supreme leader since January 1959, has announced he will retire:
Castro, 81, and ailing with an undisclosed intestinal disorder, announced in a statement carried on the state-run Granma International newspaper website early today that he was stepping down as head of state.
His announcement left little wiggle room for a comeback: “I do not aspire to and will not accept, I repeat, I neither want nor will accept, the position of president of the Council of State and commander in chief.”

A long life successfully fighting for his people against outside interests… especially US interference.
Cuba’s reaction to being cut off from oil when the USSR pulled out is an example of what might happen in the US… we can only hope we have the same end result.
Big question…. now that Fidel has stepped down will the US end its embargo on trade and other sanctions?
Castro out and Musharraf’s party takes a defeat … all in one week …
I liked the “total drag” one, he-he
Or is this getting as normal as a sunny day ?

I really hope Raul has been mentoring someone young enough to take over, help save Cuba from the predation Fidel successfully backed off, and held off, lo, these many years. It will now begin trying to assert itself in major ways. Takes a very strong and good human to resist its filthy inducements….
Might be too late already, 99

Hey Ancient, Remember BCE . . .
During the tenure of Fidel, look at what happened as the free press of America morphed into the MSM of Amurka.
Geez, I wish Fidel would head over to the U.S. and take over the reins from Bush…..it’d be a big step up for us, leaderwise. Besides that, Junior has so ruined the economy that Fidel would feel completely at home (save for the fact that Cuba’s cars are better).
waive your American flag Amurkans … dicky boy Cheney is in charge …
Has castro ever been in an episode of south park? I imagine a very humorous flash animation.
