Blogged by Brad from the Show Me State…
Looks like the Republican National Committee is getting a particularly early start in their attempts to steal next year’s election. And from the looks of Paul Kiel’s report on the deceptive RNC letter sent to a life-long Democratic voter in the Show Me State, once again Missouri may be ground zero in 2008.
All of which is swell, because we happen to be in Missouri this week, and plan to speak to folks in St. Louis next Thursday at an event sponsored by Missourians for Honest Elections (yes, there still are a few, including MO SoS Robin Carnahan, whose office contacted us to chat a bit yesterday upon seeing we’d be in town). We’ll be causing trouble in Thor Hearne Country, firing up the troops, and taking questions, after a showing of Dorothy Fadiman’s superb documentary Stealing America: Vote by Vote (which we’re told is being submitted for Academy Award nomination).
See Kiel’s story for the details on the GOP’s latest efforts to game democracy and fool voters, instead of impressing them with actual ideas and policy, as that’s what this quick item was meant to be about. But otherwise, if you’re in or near St. Louis, please stop by Eliot Church in Kirkwood next Thursday night! More details are available here.

Hey Brad,
Last fall, after I emailed a response to Mark Crispin Miller’s announcement of several screenings of the film back east, pointing out that Utah was where Bruce Funk brought Black Box Voting and Harri Hursti in for the best examination at the time of Diebold TSx, and where we got to see the sophisticated negotiations Diebold undertook in response — NOT — “ZOOM SPLAT TOSS” is a better description…
Dorothy Fadiman contacted our wonderful Geralyn Dreyfous at the Salt Lake Film Center (which is the only organization in the U.S. to present a prescreening of the entire HBO movie of “Angels in America” back in 2003 — other cities chose only Part 1), mailed me a DVD of the film, and she and Bruce and I became part of the SLFC’s Democracy and Human Rights Festival on the Sunday before the election.
Dorothy also filmed an interview with Bruce that day.
So, when you see the film, let us know if the evolving movie now includes Bruce.
BBT
P.S. I have submitted an article to the Salt Lake Tribune re Debra Bowen and our Utah TSx’s that includes a suggestion of an apology to Bruce from our Lt. Governor. You’re in it, too, with your cell phone connection to Debra Bowen’s great comment about NASA. It looks like there’s a good chance this time that they’ll run it — I’ll keep you posted.
Brad,
I think it is wonderful that you and Desi are traveling the country, at your own expense, getting the word out in MANY parts of the U.S. Many folks may not appreciate the great sacrifice you two make for to help save our democracy.
I, for one appreciate everything you do.
