Although the fact that Libby perjured himself is (to use one of the fave and infamous phrases of this administration) a "slam dunk", there may be a technicality which the average individual may not be aware of; however, the larger picture is what this trial has actually accomplished for the american people which is HUGE. Effectively, via testimony and documents produced in the various components of the trial, the "outing" of this overreaching, power-hungry WH has been accomplished through testimony of insiders along with documents providing prima facie evidence.

This trial has essentially resulted in an "unofficial impeachment of the presidency of George W. Bush" in the eyes of americans. One can only wonder what will happen next once the PNAC's secret plot to invade Iraq as part of it's "imperialistic expansion" plan is divulged and aired. People will go bonkers when they begin to connect the nasty, ugly dots of precisely how the "lies" were conceived, planned, and spun to the american people in the lead up to the war....nasty stuff!

One can only hope that justice will be served and, once the libby trial has ended, then another grand jury can be convened with possible indictments of those involved in these activities whose evidence was obtained during Libby's trial. This was "brilliant" on the part of Fitzgerald in my estimation.....sheer genius! Now he's got all of the evidence of the flagrant abuse of power, the overreaching of the key players, and all of the facts he needs to really proceed and do the work of the people in bringing this administration to justice.

There is no underlying crime. Assuming Libby had told investigators and grand jury that he leaked Plame's name, he would be guilty of nothing. The leak was with malice aforethought but not a crime.

That confuses. If Libby had copped, there was no penalty. Huh? Why was Special Counsel established if no crime had been committed?

Unalterable conclusion: it was political and the only objective was to find one of the cabal stupid enough to lie. They took a page out of Ken Starr's book.

I cannot fathom why WH counsel did not quash the investigation, or, in the alternative advise the 3 stooges to fully fess. Ah, the arrogance.

Libby will walk, not because he is innocent or had a legitimate failure of memory, but because it smells of entrapment.

Each day that goes by without a verdict makes me think it's going to end with a hung jury. Think about what they have to toss around in their little minds, besides the evidence. Here's why I don't get that. I read all the national news everyday, would that disqualify me from serving on a trial about people who were in the news? I think I could reasonably listen to a non media spin.

I don't read the local news a lot which would probably be the only reason why I would show up in a jury trial here. (just missed it). I can see me being chosen for a local trial, but a National trial? Who wasn't aware of this stuff?

Zevgadol, the ONLY people that don't think violating federal statutes is a crime seem to be the hard-core right-wing whack-jobs.. That is, the statutes clearly explain that intentionally (I don't think there's reasonable doubt as to if it was intentional) "blowing the cover", revealing, making known, what have you, of a covert operative (Plame, despite the drivle from the right-wing, was listed as a covert agent when she was outed) -is a crime-!

Therefore, this -all- started when Plame was outed. Part of the reason Fitzjerald didn't bring charges of -that- crime was because he couldn't find the evidence he needed to prove the case... guess why? LIBBY LIED (as did others). Fitz said as much in press releases.. he said "we aren't finding evidence we need to prosecute the crime of outing an agent ... because people are lying to investigator and impeding the investigation. Therefore, we're going to prosecute Libby for lieing to us".

I guess I don't understand why that is "too confusing for pundits and jurors". In fact, there's -nothing- confusing about "the facts", just what it all looks like after the right-wing pundits get done with it. See, they have very twisted (and polluted) logic streams. They can't follow a line from start to finish let alone something that requires holding a thought as a reference for more than 2 seconds. Kind of like 3 year olds..

He will be convicted of course because ALL the evidence shows he is guilty as hell of TREASON.

There will be a mistrial because a few of the jurors will agree that Libby had the same problem many of the prosecutors witnesses had....they really couldn't remember details from four years back. Ok so i have been living under a rock basically but i wanna know clearly. When you all say Cheney and libby will be charged for treason,(and now libby is found guilty) what exactly did he lie about? Would anyone be willing to share the history of what he did and how it ties with cheney, concerning iraq?
