RIP, Richard Prior, one of the funniest comedians in history.
Prior's unique talents on stage and screen provided me with some the biggest laughs of my life. He will be missed.
I'll be playing one of his tapes tonight, "Stir Crazy," laughing as I mourn the passing of a dazzling talent.

I guess my favorite Pryor bits came out on Saturday Night Live. That show started while I was in high school in a small town in Alabama, in a time and place where racial tensions were still high. Pryor's "job interview" with Chevy Chase was HILARIOUS, to blacks AND whites - and trust me, it was scary times - we NEEDED to laugh.
I confess, I am a closet comedienne. I was a bit of a class clown, one who shied from most attention, unless I was making people laugh. I got into trouble for cracking jokes at inappropriate times, I wrote funny skits for drama class and could always make a room full of friends laugh, but I found it impossible to perform on stage (and I really did try). I am in AWE of people who are good enough and confident enough to do that for a living! What better gift can you possess in life, than the ability to make people forget about their pain for awhile and just LAUGH?
Paul - Well aren't YOU just a little ray of sunshine? Bless your heart, you really DON'T have a sense of humor, do you?
Sweety, no one EVER said Pryor was a saint, or a hero. He had a rough life, and it was reflected in what he considered funny. A LOT of comedy originates from some sort of pain. Comedy is actually a good coping mechanism and a healthy reaction to a bad environment, considering the alternatives.
Whatever Richard Pryor's background, he was DAMNED FUNNY. Too bad you didn't get that.
BTW *using my best Loraine Newman voice from SNL* -
PAUL - YOUR MAMA SEWS SOCKS THAT SMELL!!!
(and I'm sure you won't get that, but those who remember the skit will ;-P )

It says alot about this site that you give a tribute to a crack smoking Hollywood type and totally ignore an anti-war activist like Eugene McCarthy. Maybe if you people get your priorites straight you may actually win an election now and then.
A guy whose claim to fame is he used the f- word on stage. Wow, impressive!
