ALERT! ALERT!
This could provide some good material for questions for Bob Fitrakis later tonight. He might be willing to comment if someone could have him take a look.
Bev Harris has just posted a lengthy, thoughtful response to the questions I posed re: John Conyers, Michigan obstructiveness to FOIA requests and related topics. See here.
This should be obligatory reading for all Brad Bloggers. Harris talks about the kinds of specific reforms that are needed, reflects on current legislation ("blemish removal" and "makeup" v.s. "rebuild the system"), and suggests an amnesty for cooperative election officials as one of the crucial ingredients to get successful results. She also talks about some pending legal actions. (It would be interesting to ask Bob Fitrakis to comment on Harris' various suggestings regarding true election reform.)
Harris also describes the nature of the problems with the Michigan Secretary of State and the Michigan State Elections Office regarding FOIA requests. She has supportive words for Conyers and mentions which areas might be the most productive for his office to focus on.
I hope everyone interested in election reform and restoring democracy wll read this post and share it with their friends.
Mention it on the show tonight!

Here's a brief excerpt from the recent BBV post about election reform
-----------------------------------------
Election reform is splitting into two camps:
- The "work within the establishment" camp, which is focusing on blemish removal
- The "rebuild the system" camp which is focusing on more permanent solutions, starting with addressing the core problems that have turned our democracy into a sham. Black Box Voting is in the "rebuild the system" camp, and we aren't particularly interested in blemish removal.
Rush Holt bill = blemish removal
Hillary bill = makeup to make it look nicer
Core problems identified by the "Rebuild the system" camp:
- Failure to count the real ballots
- Corporate funding of elected officials
- Corruption in the procurement process (undisclosed payments to/by lobbyists, kickbacks, contract steering)
- Negligent certification process
- Computerized voting systems that sacrifice auditing and security for "flexibility" (read: tamperability)
- Inappropriate privatization of election systems
- Problems with access to public records, Freedom of Information access, such that election results cannot be substantiated at all

Hello Brad,
Quick one...
You started talking about how important it was that Sensenbrenner (sp?) walked out and shut down the meeting prior to the "opposition" (and, hey, aren't we all supposed to be on the same side?) but didn't bring your point home.
The "dems" called for the archane rule 11, but was it acknowledged? What are the ramifications?
More as I keep listening.
Keep it up, bro!

I'm a life long Democrat and have followed Bev Harris and BBV almost from the start. It wasn't until I read thorough threads over at Democratic Underground that I found out just how vile Harris is.
I'll leave it at that and leave others to look further into it for themselves. I bring this up only out of concern for legitimate e-voting reform done by Velvet Revolution and others.
Please look into it further.

I don't share that gentleman's views. I just watched Dean on C-Span, chairing a meeting of the DNC. He's candid, outspoken, speaks openly about hypocrisy and "values," and seems to be what we need, what with all those Bidens and Liebermans and Hillarys running around. Talk about sell-outs!
Dean is and has always been violently opposed to the Iraq war, regarding it as illegal and immoral.
Sorry to disagree

I hope we will all be very aware of all information we receive. I, personally, have followed Bev Harris' work since last year and know that there is much she has brought to attention that is absolutely accurate.
We all must do as much research as possible to corroborate any "evidence" we encounter along this journey of "busting" the thieves!
Thanks for your input!

#37 you are incorrect. It wasn't Harris who did all that work but instead a few others that worked with her behind the scenes that have now left.
Like I said you don't have the real story. Trust when i tell you this. Start looking into names like Andy Stephenson ( Andy co authored the BBV book but recieved NO credit) and David Allen.

Concerned Reader #15,
Harris has answered this nonsense in comprehensive detail on the BBV website. Update yourself before repeating mischief-making allegations that are untrue. There were challenging situations with a former employee--perhaps you are one of his friends. The full facts are on the BBV website if you are interested in knowing more.
If you're interested in factual election info and not rumors the BBV website is one of many excellent resources. One of the things I respect is their integrity, including addressing questions such as the rumor you have raised. However, if you don't read the website to see the response then you'll continue in your current state of misinformation.
By the way, BBV has begun posting the actual scanned files from the audits they are doing. Lots more material is still to come. Palm Beach has already failed its audit based on the info supplied. They had to take a lawsuit even to get this incomplete info. It is a real scandal--one voting machine results tape was run weeks before the Nov. 2 election. Other voting machines do not show up on the counting computer log. Many of the poll tapes are unsigned (2 signatures are required by state law.) Touch-screens were being recalibrated throughout the day of the election, and even during the middle of the night. There are lots more anomalies--thousands of them, all with the original documentation. This is explosive material--and a great resource for those who like facts and original documentation.

sorry to say but to go along with what is written in this thread is to only show one's lack of information dealing with these two particular subject.
Once again, Harris is a fraud! I say this with all the concern I have for our party. She is a registered postinmg member of the FreeRepublic. She may have misappropriated huge amounts of donations ( ask radio host Randy Rhodes) Randy confronted Harris on live radio and Harris went into a stammering mess trying to explain and couldn't. last i heard she is being investigated for these actions.
Harris has taken credit for the BBV movement while others who worked with her did all the work. These peopel have left. Since their leaving Harris has now started major smear campaigns on each of these people.

Bear in mind Harris is PR person by trade but in the last few months everything is catching up with her very quickly. She can only PR herself for so long.

Re: Dean,
I'd love to know he is what he seemed to be before the election. I have no first-hand basis for believing or not believing today's Alternet article. Has Dean spoken out about the Iraq war recently? Maybe he has to toe a certain line at certain party functions in response to major corporate donors. (As party leader he may be coming under lots more pressure to placate big corporate donors.) Has Dean been as outspoken as he used to be?
I am raising a question, not expressing an opinion. From where I live I don't hear about what he is up to these days. It's wise to check out these things and not make assumptions.

In wondering why the Dems who are aware of election fraud so quiet about it - is it possible they are playing along to keep their jobs?
- from ms in la at Clark Community Network...
"Ben Nelson lost his 1996 Senate run to Chuck Hagel. Hagel was running the company who counted the votes (AIS, later known as ESS). Nelson was leading in the polls 65% to 18%. Hagel, a relative unknown, had not even lived in Nebraska for over 20 years; Nelson had been a popular Governor. ESS is based in Nebraska. Hagel, ESS Chairman and major investor in their parent company-- came from behind, after his own tabulators counted the votes, and won with 56% in a surprise upset. First Republican Senate winner in Nebraska in 24 yrs.
Ben Nelson KNOWS he has a greater need to appeal to the powers that be than to the constituency. All the constituency do is pretend to vote. The powers that be do the "counting".
I repeat: The ones who've experienced this curious midnight tabulator switch close-up in their own careers are all the same ones who are cozying up to the right...They know to whom they are beholden. Watch them and you'll see it clearly."

I still believe there has been an infiltration into the Democratic party by Republicans masquerading as Democrats. It's becoming apparent as time goes by ... take a look at the Sherole Eaton entry on Bradblog front page (ref: DU Sherole Eaton Attends Hocking Democrat Meeting
The two Hocking "democrat" Board of Election members, Susie Hughes and Gerald Robinette were present at the meeting. It was these two individuals that had voted for Diebold and voted along with the Republicans to fire Sherole.
Bruce Johnson stated to Gerald Robinette, “We will have a recommendation of who we want to become the next Deputy Director” and asked “Will you follow our recommendation?”
Gerald Robinette replied, “No, I cannot say that we will” and added, “We normally just go along with whomever the Republicans want”

Fitrakis wants to go 100% paper ballots, but his comment (as best as I can relay) was that Diebold solution is totally electronic, including voter registration, so effectively, they can create their own voters!!

Advice: Exclude no one (even if over 55). You have no idea who is what age here or there. Some may, indeed surprise you! Conyers himself reads. Not a big thing! Some even listen to the shows. Some even contribute.
BTW how old is GWBush? Has he ever read a real book? "They" are the party of exclusion!

We need more people to step forward! I wish more people would do so. It's so sad not many people would do that. I so don't like how whistleblowers are treated in this country. I know they're probably afraid for their life.
I remember sometime last year the democrats were having a hearing on various things with Iraq and they invited republicans but none showed up (go figure) and there were supposed to be whistleblowers there but they all declined because they were threatned with their life. Don't forget there's Sibel Edmons. She's been fighting but keeps coming up in corners. I hope she's going to be at Conyers' event.

Question for McGovern if possible:
What is his opinion on the various numbers of Iraqi dead from this war? Iraqbodycount.com reports 20,000-30,000 "confirmed" dead from the papers, and they state not "possible or probable deaths" but actually published. Then the Lancet report estimates around 100,000 total (including Iraqi military) with a large margin of error. Both sides politically pick their favorite number of the two and use that as arguing grounds.
What can McGovern say about the likely numbers?

Where I live, an average dinner out for 2 costs about $35. The cost of a movie plus drink & snack costs about $35. A concert would costs between $50 and $100.

If I miss it tomorrow afternoon (which is possible, given certain obligations) then I will have to wait until it appears in the archives ... [had to plug the archives, didn't I?] and if you missed it you can hear it too, as well as all the previous ones! ... just click here and follow your nose ... or ears ... or whatever ...
Thanks again to the lovely and talented Kira --- what a job you've done tonight! it raises the bar as far as I'm concerned and it's clear that I had better bring my 'A' game next Saturday ... Kira made a great point in comment #201 when she said "we ... need to keep ... corroborating" ... at first glance I read it wrong and thought she said "collaborating" ... of course we still need to do that too ...
Thanks again to Brad [who totally ROCKS] as well as all his friends in the studio and elsewhere who make this weekly show possible.

1) Brad and others--congrats on the show! I look forward to hearing it all when I can get to the computer that has a sound card. It was nice being able to phone in from Ireland. (I have this great UK-based cheap service called Telestunt that lets me make most international calls for the cost of a local (timed) phone call. Though I've heard from people with Caller ID that a strange UK phone number shows up!)
2) For those interested in knowing more about Bev Harris of BBV and her Free Republic postings, I did a search and got this.
It is illuminating. Some of this info she had already posted on BBV (her responses to some queries by a Republican poster)--see here and here.
Other material Harris posted on Free Republic was new to me and it made for interesting and revealing reading. I checked out some of the original threads as well, which was also revealing and amusing at times. It sure shows where individuals are coming from.
The BBV website also has a number of significant posts that were made to the Daily Kos website; see here. (see the ones near the very bottom of the thread as well as the ones near the top.) I have learned a lot by reading the responses to issues raised by others.
Enjoy!

Can't pick up Brad's show here in Connecticut. At least, I don't know how. But I'm excited that it's such a success.
Just read the British story @rawstory.com. It just strengthens the case that the Downing Street minutes are deadly accurate. It mentions that the mainstream media here have ignored the story, and credits bloggers for keeping it alive. For those trolls who say we're irrelevant...hear, hear!
BUSH AND BLAIR DECIDED TO INVADE IRAQ MONTHS BEFORE THE DECISION WAS ANNOUNCED, AND LOOKED FOR A WAY TO MAKE IT APPEAR THE DECISION WAS SPONTANEOUS. THEY TRIED TO MAKE IT APPEAR THAT SADDAM HUSSEIN WASN'T COMPLYING WITH U.N. DIRECTIVES, WHEN IN FACT HE WAS. BUT THE INVASION HAD BEEN DECIDED ON, REGARDLESS.

Hi Concerned #209,
I've just read the entire first thread you posted. Having also read all the other material (links posted in #206, and I also looked at the original FR posts lest I miss something important), I'm surprised you think there's anything in that thread that makes Bev Harris or BBV looks bad. It's rants and accusations with no substance. Have you kept up with the documentation coming out of BBV? Have you read the links posted in #206? They answer questions folks have raised at various points in time. The documentation coming out of the audits is explosive stuff--I'm surprised you don't seem interested or aware. Have a look here if you're not sure what I'm talking about, and look at each thread (Anomaly list - continuing; Precinct Data list - continuing; About the WinEds Event Logs; About the 'card stuck' error).
I encourage all Brad Bloggers to look at this material for themselves and make up their own mind.
This reminds me of a pattern of trouble-makers who used to keep disrupting the BBV website last Nov. & Dec. Finally BBV moved to a secure server and a login system that required registering real information before being allowed to post and there is virtually no time-wasting disruption any more. This happened at the same time BBV had started to post sensitive meterial about its investigations.
The same thing seems to be happening here. BBV starts posting fairly explosing results of investigations and audits (with original scanned documents that speak for themselves), I link to them here, and now suddenly there appears to be another intense attempt to discredit Bev Harris/BBV.
I'd encourage anyone to have a read of all sides. I'll read the other threads Concerned posted, too--but I don't think I'll find anything new since these were dealt with comprehensively on the BBV website months ago.
If Brad Blog becomes a place where unsubstantiated flamings and character assassinations are tolerated and facts are ignored, then this blog isn't the place for honest, respectful discussion that I thought it to be.

Concerned #209,
1) The Olberman article from Dec. 04 you linked to had inaccuracies that reflected poorly on Olmerman and his staff, and that Bev Harris explained in detail 6 months ago. If you really want her to unarchive old material which is only related to previous smear attempts and not to any investigation, contact her and ask her to post it again.
2) Re: the Randi Rhodes show my computer doesn't have a sound card at the moment. Bev Harris also responded to that episode in detail about 6 months ago. If you want her to unarchive that old material which some people used in an unsuccessful attempt to discredit her, and to which she fully explained about 6 months ago, contact BBV and ask that this material be posted again.
3) Re: the last URL from DU, I followed all the links. If you actually bother to read the posts you see that there is no substance there--only another smear attempt. Others picked up very quickly what was going on. I quote from this one:
-------------------
"Perhaps its not coincidental that people are attacking the integrity of some very familiar actors within the vote fraud community.
"On edit: perhaps its also not coincidental that the DNC has changed fund raising strategies to rely more heavily on the internet then ever before. Someone seems to be sowing the seeds of distrust all over the web. ...I'd be looking out for these fires to spread further and hopefully someone more savvy then me is "imagining up" a solution.
-------------------------
4) Concerned, Bev Harris has also been very open about her dealings with Andy Stephenson and others. This was also handled comprehensively about 6 months ago.
I am sure Stephenson may not like Harris. The only new material you have added here is the expression of surprise by Harris and others that the first postings Stephenson did after coming out of surgery was to start a campaign based on untrue allegations against Harris' children. If you think that reading this made me gain respect for Stephenson or lose respect for Harris, guess again. Nonetheless I wish him a speedy recovery. It is no fun being sick and having surgery. Stephenson has unquestionably done his bit for election reform, whatever his relationship with Bev Harris may be.
Stephenson is involved with VR (or at least he has posted there) and so is Brad. I have no idea whether there are any loyalties there that might hamper objectivity at Brad Blog. I would hope not.
If anyone else at Brad Blog has any substantive questions about Bev Harris or Black Box Voting that have not been previously addressed, ask her. As you can see from the links in #206, she answers questions. I don't see why she should have to spend time answering questions she answered 6 months ago in detail. If you are keen to find a legitimate concern to undermine BBV in the eyes of Brad Blog readers find something based on accurate, current information. I'd rather see Harris spend her time doing exactly what she is doing, investigating and auditing questionable elections.
If you are "Concerned" about election reform your time might be spent more productively looking at the voting machine records that have been posted and contacting your local press to publicize the anomalies.
I will not respond to any further postings of this sort; if anyone reads all these threads and still has any concerns about BBV they can contact BBV directly.
From my own observations at BBV, DU, Brad Blog and elsewhere, I have learned about the kinds of patterns of systemic disruption that are used to try to discredit people doing important work. It goes with the territory and is perhaps inevitable. The trouble is, it results in a lot of time-wasting that over time can diminish the focus and effectiveness of a group (which I assume is the purpose of the disruption). At some point Brad Blog might want to consider a more formal registration system if disruptive behavior becomes a problem--but hopefully that will not be necessary.
I will not take up any more bandwidth addressing Concerned's issues with BBV.
Onwards! There are plenty of issues out there crying out for more campaigns from the mighty "6 or 7"!

#210, Catherine that little list I put together was done in a matter of 5 minutes. As i've suggested through out this thread I encourage others to search out the more detailed information specifically at the Democratic Underground, which happens to be the largest site on the internet for Democrats.
By doing so you will find detailed posts by all the parties mentioned in the BBV.org scandal including Bev Harris herself who was a member until being banned for the second time. Her banning was do to a tactic she so enjoys using, that being the threat of law suits against anyone who dare speak out against her shady dealings.
Understand, I'm not her to convince you of anything or in anyway change your mind. I spoke up to counter your early post referring to Bev Harris as some kind of goto person in the work of e-voting fraud. I don't want readers of this blog to follow such false information.
Bev Harris has made most of her living ( until BBV.org was started) as a Public Relationship specialist, in other words she was a "spinner".
You know very very little of the entire subject dealing with this women. I wont even go into sites and fictitious awards that over night were bestowed on her as the real facts started to come out.... Yea, that doesn't sound like a PR campaign to me.
Based on how you also wrongly targeted Howard Dean in this thread but later went on to requalify what you meant pretty much shows how you gather your information. I suggest you get a little bit more involved with a subject before posting opinions you think are fact to a larger group of people.
I think I have done what was needed to counter your loving claim of the good Harris has done to the issue of e-voting fraud and reform.
When everything is said and done it will be shown that Bev Harris has given this very important subject a huge black eye that the right-wing slime machine will lap up.

I'm on the fence about Bev Harris. I usually go to votersunite.org for investigation into voting machines and such. I heard the Randi Rhodes interview and her inability to be reached for Kieth Olbermann during the Ohio debacle. It troubled me to say the least. I won't descredit her, but I won't defend her either. I'd like to trust her, but she makes it kind of hard. Regardless, there are a lot of other organizations that are trying to push forward on legitimate voting guidelines, many of them are on the Velvetrevolution links.

#213, No I haven't and actually I have never put myself into the Harris scandal situation before. As I stated a few times in this thread, I just felt i needed to let others know what I had come to find out.
I was a person who followed BBV.org and when I started reading the stories of Harris I was angry at those saying such things. That was until I read more into the situation.
When I read first hand accounts from Andy Stephenson and others I knew who was telling the truth. Understand Andy, just went through major surgery to remove a tumor from his pancreas. Right-wing nutjobs started a campaign to have that surgery cancelled at a major hospital. They have now set up a site trashing Andy as scam artist because many people donated thousands so he could have the surgery. All of this reads like a soap opera but sadly people had speak up to shut these sickening smears down.
If right-wing freeper groups feel so threatened by Andy you know the man is doing some pretty good work.
Do yourself a favor and look more into it. All the info you need can be found at DU.

Pec C, re: my #27 and your #36 about Dean--
Your observations about Dean's recent speech were broadly in line with what was in the Alternet article. The article didn't claim Dean wasn't an inspiring speaker, and if I recall correctly they talked about his mentioning values. The author highlighted that in comparison to his pre-election persona, he was noticeably silent on the big issues--key issues that he had been vocal about in the past, and that needed to be spoken of, that are getting ignored by the media, and that Democratic party members longed to have spoken of (the Iraq war, Downing Street Minutes, corruption in Ohio, election reform)--yet instead he seemed to focus on generalities and style ("heart") rather than substance. It was a missed opportunity to get some of these issues into the spotlight, and in this context it was a worrying departure from his previous style.
That said, I'd agree with his point about communication style mattering, and that liberals/progressives in general tend to be more intellectual and tend to use reason, and that conservatives tend to appeal successfully to people at the emotional level, and Democratic party candidates need to learn from this. I see the same thing going on here in Ireland--the liberal parties use rational argument, but right-wing parties appeal to the gut and it works. So I don't think I'd disagree in principle with Dean's point about Democrats perhaps benefitting from a change in style.
But if in his new role Dean has to focus on raising the big bucks, and if in so doing he is more or less muzzled in how outspoken he can be (wouldn't want to annoy all those corporate donors) that would be a pity. It would cut him off from his grass-roots support which is what made him popular in the first place.
Getting "promoted" in political circles is a double-edged sword. It can take out of a person the very thing that made them appealing, inspiring and different. From my perspective, having seen this happen with other politicians, it looks like history repeating itself.
Re: comparing Dean with Clinton, Biden, Lieberman I agree with you. But the point of the Alternet piece was comparing Dean now with Dean previously, and observing that there was a marked difference. I think it is worth considering that point of view.
If so, he won't be the first or the last. The existing political system tends to have that effect. We desperately need politicians who are willing to be courageous and outspoken, to speak for the wider membership and not for the moneyed interests who traditionally give the largest donations. But the system itself either prevents that kind of person from moving forward or it forces them to adapt themself to the existing system and power base within the party. Maybe it is a kind of self-censorship like in the media--people know that if they cross a certain line it will hold back their career.
We need systems that will reward courage and individuality. Too much seems to depend on fund-raising ability which translates into going along with vested interests. Ironically, this is why Dean's broad-based fund-raising was so exciting. It seemed to point to a new way forward and it galvanized many in the party. Now he has (or is expected to develop) a different relationship to fund-raising but that means playing to a different audience. He risks losing his base if he has to change too much.
This is why the need for campaign finance reform, such as is happening in Maine and Arizona, is so urgent.

BBV DEMONSTRATE THAT DIEBOLD MACHINES ARE EASILY HACKABLE!
Equipment test under fire
Manufacturer says its voting system may now be vulnerable
By Bill Cotterell
DEMOCRAT POLITICAL EDITOR
An attorney for the company that makes Leon County’s voting equipment told state and county officials Thursday it was "very foolish and irresponsible" for Elections Supervisor Ion Sancho to let an outside group try poking holes in vote-tabulation security systems.
Michael Lindroos, senior corporate counsel for Diebold Election Systems Inc., said the company "cannot confirm at this time whether you can conduct any future elections reliably." He suggested that the county do a complete system evaluation before any future elections.
But Sancho said the equipment recently put through its paces by Black Box Voting will never be used again in a regular election. He said the nonprofit, nonpartisan organization was closely monitored as it tried to "hack" into the system - and that even if Black Box had left some bugs behind, his office has ordered an upgraded model that will be used in the 2006 elections.
The equipment will be used in next Tuesday’s special election in House District 7. He said there have been very few early votes cast - and only one race on the ballot - so his staff could hand count them if Republican Marti Coley or Democrat Carl Duncan has any doubts about the outcome.
An aide to Secretary of State Glenda Hood said the Division of Elections "will be contacting all appropriate parties to review this matter."
In a blistering letter to Sancho, all seven county commissioners and Paul Craft, the head of voting-system certification in Hood’s elections office, Lindroos said Sancho compromised the security of the system by letting Black Box Voting try to crack it. He said Sancho may have "intentionally and negligently allowed unauthorized personnel to make modifications to your system that are not discernible to you or your IT staff.
"Aside from potential violations of our licensing agreements and intellectual property rights, we believe this to have been a very foolish and irresponsible act," Lindroos wrote.
Sancho, contacted at a meeting of county elections supervisors in Pasco County, said he would do it again. He said it is important "to maintain public confidence in the integrity of elections" by allowing people with doubts to come in and test the systems under tightly controlled conditions.
Bev Harris, founder of Black Box Voting in Renton, Wash., said she made three visits to Tallahassee and worked with two computer-security experts between February and May. They tried unsuccessfully to penetrate the computer system from outside the courthouse but Sancho then allowed access to a secure room - where only one of his employees has the codes to operate the computers.
Harris said Black Box Voting demonstrated that a corrupt employee could easily get around security walls, tamper with vote totals and exit the system without leaving any tracks, the Tallahassee Democrat reported Saturday. By changing a memory card, the report said, her team was able to make 65,000 votes disappear in the test.
Sancho said "the level of rhetoric" shows that Diebold and the state are defensive about security and that groups like Black Box Voting are ready to believe the worst. Florida voting methods have been a touchy topic since the 2000 presidential election, which was decided for President Bush by 537 votes after 36 days of court fights, street demonstrations and on-again, off-again recounts in some counties.
"I don’t believe in conspiracy theories," Sancho said. "I believe there is sometimes simply human error and negligence, but not conspiracy. What we really need is more honesty and less heat in these situations."
Lindroos said it was not realistic for someone to be given access to a system that is always under tight security.
"Your improper actions, Mr. Sancho, are equivalent to leaving your car unlocked, with the windows down and the keys left in the ignition, and then acting surprised when your car is stolen or the interior vandalized," wrote Lindroos. "Other examples would be acting surprised if anomalies were discovered after you left paper ballots exposed in an unsecured area and invited individuals of questionable character to visit the room, or asked some unknown person to deliver paper ballots to a central counting location without a trusted escort."
Harris, contacted in Washington state, said she has confidence in Sancho’s security systems and employees. But she said similar Diebold systems are used in about 800 cities and counties across the country, with three to five employees having access in each jurisdiction, and that the system "should send up a red flare" if a dishonest employee tries to change vote totals.
Harris said Black Box evaded security systems and changed votes without setting off any alarms in its tests.
"It took us less than a minute to replace the Diebold system with something we wrote and to hijack the whole system," she said. "I would venture to say it doesn’t happen in Leon County, but that’s like saying nobody ever embezzles. When you have 800 jurisdictions and three to five employees with access in each, that’s like saying you’ve got 3,000 to 4,000 employees and none of them will ever try something."
Jenny Nash, a spokeswoman for the secretary of state’s office, said the elections office will monitor the controversy.
"The security of Florida’s voting systems is a top priority for the Department of State," she said.
"It is disappointing to hear that Supervisor Sancho did give access to unauthorized personnel," she added. "With any system in the world, no matter how secure it is, if the person in charge gives outside access, well then that’s a real problem."

Hey folks, I just came across this story and thought I'd share. I just grabbed the first open thread that I saw.

Military programs are moving into middle schools to fish for future soldiers, training students as young as 11 to march in formation and carry weapons."
The full article can be found here: http://www.alternet.org/story/22192/
I've been holding my breath hoping NOT to see something like this develop, so I'm feeling more than a bit disturbed right now. Can you say Hitler Youth? Bad enough knowing that military branches have been out in force recruiting our young men and women, but this.... this is dangerous, hypocritical crap that has NO place in a public school. Just my opinion, of course.

I think we're winning through the blogosphere. Bush's poll numbers keep dropping. Republicans here and there are distancing themselves from the administration. The trolls are out in force, meaning their patrons are worried. An impeachment inquiry is close at hand...who would have guessed that three months ago?
Desperate measures like the nuclear option and eliminating the two-term limit are proof of our success. The Bastille walls are coming down without Les Miserables storming the redoubt...and Louis XVI could soon be headed back to the Palace of Versailles, where he can clear brush to his heart's content.
