(Blogged by Brad in Nashville…)
One week after the November 2004 election, we blogged an item we called “Why It Matters: The World is Watching”. The piece covered the way in which Russia’s Pravda wondered aloud, “Did Bush fix the election”?
Just over two weeks later, Ukraine’s own fixed election, and the Bush administration’s infuriatingly hypocritical outrage brought more condemnation from Pravda, this time as they chastised the American administration for having the gall to question anyone else’s election after our own — which was even more askew than Ukraine’s. Our item headlined “Home to Roost – or, Democracies That Live in Glass Houses” covered the continuing degradation in esteem from our once-promising Russian ally.
And today, it’s The Moscow Times who joins the World’s America Hating Party in a damning article suggesting the game is over and the forces of Democracy in the previously-Free World have lost.
UPDATE: Chris Floyd’s column The Big Fix, which was published in The Moscow Times, is now available to subscribers only, but you can read it on Chris’ blog. Click here.
Unlike their compatriots in the American Media, The Times covers the Clint Curtis story in their article by way of referencing much of what The BRAD BLOG has reported on that sorry affair. They’ve even beaten the American Media at reporting on the latest Baker Commission Blue-Ribbon “Election Reform” fix which America can now look forward to — even if they’re not paying attention — unless something is done about it.
The rest of the world recognizes news, and what it may mean for this country and the world. Even if the American Media does not.
Though that may change a bit over the next few days as a major American Newspaper may indeed be jumping into the Clint Curtis fray. We’ll do our best to keep you abreast of those developements even as we’re otherwise occupado down here in Nashville…Stay Tuned…

Thanks for that update Brad.
We need a stronger voice in bringing these issues to the American people. There is no way the corrupt corporate media is going to touch it. Maybe Velvet Revolution should consider something of a "million man" march for election reform. Corporate Media wont be able to ignore a million people in Washington.
Just a thought.
A major American newspaper? Interesting. I won’t hold my breath on it, but I’m glad to see the Moscow Times jumping into the mix. A great number of Americans are still dumb enough to believe that the world was pro-Bush on the Iraq invasion. Must be the paper they’re reading.
And Brad, if this major American paper decides to use a picture of you, please don’t let them use the one where you sport a Kenny G looking hairstyle (The one I saw on your personal page). If there are also any pictures of you sporting a mullet, I’d recommend you burn them. I don’t mean to be fascist, but I’m going to. Burn those pictures of yourself with the Kenny G hairstyle.
Though that may change a bit over the next few days as a major American Newspaper may indeed be jumping into the Clint Curtis fray…….very interesting!
ps. dont use the pic with the cigi in ya mouth
Man o man… that Moscow Times piece REALLY nails the plight of this country! And how!
Yeah, Brad. Don’t be smokin’ and let others do some proofreading too.

RE: Comment #1 by RAF-
I made the same suggestion of a "million person march" a couple of months ago on this Blog and I continue to think it could be a powerful and effective statement that the people can’t be silenced or ignored. VR (or some other group) needs to consider such a thing to occur in the next few (Spring, Summer) months and while there is still time to have an impact on voting reform before the 2006 elections. I’m all for Divestiture For Democracy but we need to hit hard from as many directions as possible. With Bush’s popularity so low (and even Arnold’s plummeting here in CA) I think the evidence of widespread discontent with the Republican Machine is becoming more and more apparent. I think people are looking for a way to express their great concern about what is happening in this country and I can think of no more active way for that to occur than a GIANT demonstration/march. There is nothing I wouldn’t drop to attend such a march.
re #1 (RAF) and #6 (Steve): Surely you must not be the only two people thinking this way. 😉 I do not know what VR has up its sleeve, but we will soon find out.
Brad, well done in keeping this thing going. Personally I don’t think that we have a million people right now who are informed enough about this issue…maybe 10,000 max? We’ll see how successful Nashville is.
2 things,
1. I think if we want to try and breathe life into this movement we could try and bring fraud info to campuses…the problem: you have very strong and organized college republicans spewing the same shit as on the national level.
2. I think we should make a harder effort to contact foreign media…because frankly there is no hope for our media until the people have already taken the streets.
not that I’m against marches…I’ve been to plenty and will go to plenty in the future…
but the msm ignored the anniversary of iraq march just a few weeks ago…they mostly ignore the action on the streets at the RNC…the marches against the war in 2003 and the protests at the inaugurations.
The best thing to do is keep telling your friends…your neighbors….print hard copies of Brad’s articles and the work of other bloggers…write your congressman…write your media people…and especially….leave links on every single lefty blog on the internet…people follow those links…
but try to keep it civil…I know I’m one to speak…lol…if you piss them off they won’t listen and they won’t look into it…
spread the word as far and as wide as you can…continue posting diaries on daily kos and at democratic underground
all of you have done great work…a rally might be a good idea just so we could all meet up with one another…but it’s just gonna get ignored by the msm and the a list blogs…they didn’t cover the war rallies and they were humongous in NYC
The more the Republicans organize…the more they plot to bring about election deform…the more it will help us…
peace all
Thank you, Brad. You have been serving us WELL. 🙂
wow! like minded thinkers and allies in the soviet union….. what a shocker!
We’ve now come full circle, folks. Who’da thunkit?
The geographic center of the universe for Cold War propaganda, Moscow, has now become the conduit of truth against the New Fascism.
Hallelujah! No U.S. paper is likely to transcribe Floyd’s wonderful article right away, but a German paper might, or an Italian one, or a Turkish one. Once Pandora’s box has been opened, the evils don’t normally crawl back inside. Eventually the New York Times and Washington Post will be replacing Michael Jackson and Terri Schiavo with Clint Curtis, Tom Feeney, and Raymond Lemme. Count on it, friends.
And Brad Friedman deserves the lion’s share of the credit. Or, since the Moscow Times published the story, maybe we should say the bear’s share.
I think that Russians in general, having lived through what they have, are in a prime position to help us, considering what we’re about to live through. They’re really sweet people, as are most of us, and connecting with them can’t be anything but good!
Re: #6 Steve, I’m in total agreement with everything you mentioned. I also think with Spring /Summer weather rolling in would provide an excellent opprotunity for more participation.
Re: # 7 Winter Patriot, Let’s hope this idea or any other idea that highlights the issue of election reform and specifically e-voting fraud is being looked at by the powers that be.
RE; #8 Chris, There way not be a million people today to participate but with a well thought out campaign by Velvet Revolution I personally feel we would be able to reach that mark very very quickly.
RE: #9 Ron Brynaert, Ron the corrupt corporate media wouldn’t be able to ignore Washington DC being shut down say perhaps on a weekday. Although for better turn out a weekend would be more appropriate.
Your suggestion of continuing on with the same ole, same ole of telling friends, family and neighbors is what everyone has been doing since 2000. Most are aware of what’s going on but many in this country don’t do anything until a more upfront message is out there. They like to see things repeated over and over on the corporate media before they feel it’s worthy.
It’s time to start thinking outside of the box. My suggestion was something that came to me pretty quickly. It’s far from the best campaign but at least it’s something. I put the idea out there in hopes that organizations such as Velvet Revolution will start the wheels turning on an effective campaign that many would follow.
With a well organized campaign and the passion most of us here posses could turn this into a powerful force of change.
Uh oh…The Moscow Times didn’t cover quite ALL the bases. Here’s another shocker, this one from CounterPunch.
Thanks for that article Peg C.
Many of us saw this coming for awhile. It will be the sheeple of this country who are in for a major shock.
Sad beyond words.
Great ideas, everyone.
If there is going to be a "million people march", it should also be A MARCH ON MEDIA HEADQUARTERS. It would be laughable if they ignored that.
People could march on their Senator/Congresspeople HQ’s, Washington D.C., and MSM HQ’s. Why limit anything????
Hi, Peg C #15 – thanks for the article. Frankly, I’m glad for the threat to punish the Bush administration, if they bomb Iran, by switching from oil dollars to oil euros. It’s going to be interesting!! Hold on to your seats…
I have a (very) few little American greenbacks invested in alternative energy technologies. I’m thinking maybe I should invest in Euros – and that seems less and less unpatriotic.
Re #19, Peg:
Mark Twain wrote: "Patriotism means supporting your country always and your government when it deserves it." He didn’t say anthing about Euros, though. I’ll keep looking. 😉
Winter P –
I’m not holding my breath on a Twain sanction. But we MIGHT get the "critter vote."
Brad has told us in the other thread that an MSM newspaper is going to go public with the Curtis story too.
This will tend to legitimize the story for those who are afraid of The Moscow Times.
Dude:
Like your web site, but the colors are a strain on the eyes, and the font is too small; can you improve it?
Also, I am working on Voting Reform legislation in Colorado (SB 198) where the Dems have won back the house and the senate. The legislation is being weakened and watered down by the SoS and her staff as well as the County Clerks, some of whom have invested big time into ES&S or DIEBOLD DREs. They have also been using the disabled community as cause to stall voter verification legislation claiming that "accessibility" is denied them if paper ballots are used. (These people will stop at nothing to hold on to power.)
The Republican strategy has been to control the elections nationwide by controlling the Governor’s office, the Secretary of State, and the County Clerks. No significant reform legislation is likely to get past these cronies. But we fight on.
Keep up the good work.
😉
