Over on dKos, diarist “histopresto”, a new Ohio “Precinct Election Official” in-training, shares his first-hand account of his recent training session.
Not only was he stunned to hear of the meltdown the state experienced with its new voting equipment during their May primary (psst, histo, I know Markos doesn’t find such things important, but we do, so maybe that’s part of why “it wasn’t publicized” as you mentioned…It certainly was over here at The BRAD BLOG!), but after he details all of the primary election problems he came to learn about, he adds “Amazingly enough, after all of these technical problems were addressed by various fixes, the big thing that was stressed by the trainer had NOTHING to do with voting machines. Instead, they spent most of their time talking about the new VOTER ID requirements that people are going to be encountering this November.”

Voter fraud isn’t even an issue (only one of many ways the facists GOP can steal an election) yet where are the good people of Ohio? Where is the demand for paper ballots? Can’t you guys get your attention off the Buckeyes for one or two days and help the rest of the country save our Democracy? Is that asking too much?

In the latest edition the indefatigable Ron Baiman explains that not even the most lunatic, reich-wing coincidence theorist could buy the outlandish claim that Bush won Ohio by actual votes. Only the thoroughly non-fact-based could believe that wingnuttery.

Ohio is ground zero for election fraud shenanigans,.. the next ploy activated there will likely be replicated nationally,.. you don’t want to turn a blind eye to that cesspool of voter suppression and disenfranchisement,……
And what will the people do when Blackwell wins even though he is behind in the polls by 15-25%? Hmmm.
I will tell you. They will quietly go about their business as they always have.
The polls ask people who are planning to vote how they will vote. They don’t take into account the chance that their votes won’t be counted.
It will all be very “above board” and legal. The registrations have already been supressed, the poll taxes are perfectly legal.
The Democrats will let it happen, rather than having a lawyer at every single precinct ready to fight for the right of any voter who is denied the right to vote.
We applied to vote absentee in Cuyahoga county OH. Several forms of ID were listed, including the last four SSI numbers. Wonder when the ballots are due out?
A computerphobic friend was hired as a techie and went to his first training session yeterday, given by a Diebold rep. It reminded him of his auxiliary police radar training, also given by a factory salesman, ignoring anything less than ideal circumstances. This is just getting better and better.
Look at this from the NYT,.. Blackwell could just deem his opponent in the gubinatorial race Ted Strickland to be an invalid candidate and appoint himself governor in the fine State of Ohio.

Ted Strickland, the Democratic nominee, is leading Mr. Blackwell by as much as 28 points, according to one recent poll. In their panic, some Blackwell supporters have hit on the idea of trying to prevent the election from occurring. One of them filed a complaint alleging that Mr. Strickland, who is a member of Congress, does not live in the apartment where he is registered to vote. Mr. Strickland owns a condominium in another part of Ohio, and the complaint alleges that he actually lives there. If Mr. Strickland was not a qualified voter, he would be prohibited from running for governor.
