- Trump administration to pay 2 more companies to walk away from US offshore wind leases (AP):
Bluepoint Wind and Golden State Wind were slated to be major offshore wind projects, each capable of powering more than 1 million homes when complete and helping the states of New Jersey, New York and California meet their clean energy goals. If the projects were to ever move forward, a developer would have to buy new leases. But under the Trump administration, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has rescinded all designated wind energy areas in federal waters.
- Trump administration pays wind developer to walk away from California offshore lease (LA Times):
Golden State Wind was one of five leaseholders off the coast of California with a wind lease off Morro Bay…The California project was expected to generate up to 2 gigawatts of clean offshore wind energy, or enough to power about 1.1 million homes, according to the company, which is a joint venture between developers Ocean Winds and Reventus Power.

[M]ore than 50 nations are gathering in Santa Marta, Colombia, today to start mapping out specific plans to phase out fossil fuels, going beyond the conditional global consensus on “transitioning away from fossil fuels in energy systems” reached at COP28 in Dubai. A lack of progress toward that goal spurred Colombia and the Netherlands to build a coalition of countries willing to move faster and farther…Instead of trying to drag every reluctant petro-state along at once, Colombia and the Netherlands are hoping to build a modular coalition of countries to develop practical timetables and mechanisms for protecting people, communities and ecosystems while electrifying transport and industry and boosting conservation and efficiency to displace fossil fuels.

Professor Johan Rockstrom discusses the launch of the Science Panel for the Global Energy Transition in Santa Marta, Colombia, which aims to support the accelerated phase-out of fossil fuels through updated scientific pathways and policy recommendations.
