At least 15 people were killed and scores hurt when a school compound in Beit Hanoun, designated as a haven for the displaced, was bombarded by Israeli forces amid heavy fighting with Palestinian militants, a Gaza health official said.
Chris Gunness, a spokesman for the U.N. Refugee and Works Agency, or UNRWA, tweeted that the precise coordinates of the shelter had been relayed to Israeli forces.
Israel’s Defense Forces issued a statement Thursday saying that they had ordered the Red Cross to evacuate civilians from the shelter in Belt Hanoun late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
“Evacuate” them to where exactly? A U.N. shelter or something?
The L.A. Times goes on to report that, “According to the IDF, Hamas militants prevented civilians from evacuating and continued firing rockets from the area around the shelter.”
Who knows if that’s true or not. Either way, of course, as “the Palestinian death toll in Gaza surpassed 720 in overnight and early-morning bombardment,” it’s clear that Israel’s strategy of bombing children in U.N. shelters, but warning them first, will almost certainly result in years of peace and prosperity for the Israeli people. What could possibly go wrong?
The only part of the piece which should spark any outrage is: “According to the IDF, Hamas militants prevented civilians from evacuating and continued firing rockets from the area around the shelter.”
Judging from your headline, the terrorist organization Hamas got the exact reaction they expect from the weak kneed blogosphere. The same goes for our “journalists” too.

Steve, And what would be the basis for uncritically accepting what the IDF says? That would make as much sense as uncritically accepting what our government says or the Russian government. All have very good track records for being precise with the truth. The Israelis and the U.S. are also very precise with their bombardments. At least according to them.

If bombs were being lobbed at al Quaeda neighborhoods from the WTC, endangering the lives of millions based upon the WTC belief that al Quaeda had no right to exist, then al Quaeda would have the right to defend itself. Whatever. Just wanted to point out the obvious. Israel warns of bombings to allow civilians an opportunity to leave ahead of time. The terrorist organization Hamas uses their civilians as pawns to get the reaction they got from nuts like you. Pretending it’s not true, defending the terrorists by ignoring their actions and condemning the people defending themselves against such terrorist activity doesn’t change anything. But sadly, it’s expected from you folks on the loony left.

No actually my views of terrorism comes pretty much straight from the dictionary definition: the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims. I have no desire whatsoever to watch a political video describing your warped views of terrorism but thanks for the offer…

Help me out Brad. It’s been reported that Hamas has been using UN facilitates in Gaza to launch rockets into Israel. How come there is no reporting on that by you on your site and no uproar by you on this? I’m a liberal Jew and I’m appalled at the one sided coverage by left wing blogs on the situation in Israel. There is almost no condemnation by left wing blogs on the actions of Hamas, it’s almost as if the left wing blogosphere would like to see a lot of death and destruction in Israel. Where are your posts on Hamas storing its weapons inside hospitals, mosques and schools? Can you point to any articles on your site where you condemn Hamas?

Unless you’re going to act as the spokesperson for Al Qaeda and do their bidding for them, there is no way that you could claim that 9/11 was in provoked. I guess if 9/11 was provoked by the US than the Holocaust was provoked by Jews. What is happening in Israel and Gaza is a direct result of the kidnapping and murder of 3 Jewish boys by Hamas and the rocket firing by Hamas into Israel.
