   Sadly, this cartoon calls to mind then 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer and the events of Jan. 29, 1976 when she opened fire on an elementary school across the street from her home with a Ruger 10/22 semi-automatic .22 cal rifle with a telescopic sight that had been given to her by her father as a Christmas present.

   Spencer, who killed two and injured nine others, told authorities, “I asked for a radio, and he bought me a gun.”
