The administration was accused by both Republicans and Democrats of acting too slowly and inefficiently to protect New Orleans against 2005’s Hurricane Katrina, which killed 1,800 people amid high winds and rain that flooded the city.
“McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said delaying the start time is a possibility.
“Senator McCain has always been sensitive to national crises “” in the 2000 race, he postponed his announcement because of the situation in the Balkans, and we are monitoring the situation very closely,” Bounds said.”
Ah, but he partied down with his pal the prez in 2005 as Katrina was drowning a thousand Americans and their pets in their homes.

Now a category 4 dilemma. Btw I am loving the McCain pay for click McCain ads love the the chance to drain his coffers. .
Don’t you think that Hurricane Barack was more conducive to delaying their convention than Gustav?
I do.
Irony of ironies: Gustav = “Staff of God”
If there is any damage to the offshore platforms from this storm, I think Obama should go down there with the press and survey the destruction, oil spills and all.
That’s what McCain challenged him to do a couple of weeks ago, wasn’t it?
“Gustav don’t destroy oil platforms” busch
Flo ~ I’ve been thinkin the same thing …
“It’s the wrath of God coming down on the Evil republican Party”
You suppose God is really sending a message to the GOP true believers? If so, I doubt that they’ll get it.
People die in hurricanes. Property damage is immense. And what do lefties like Michael Moore and various commenters do? They joke about how God must be on their side. I hear the bottom of the barrel getting scraped.
Yes, Damail! Just when I thought we couldn’t get any lower than this bullshit about God and storms, they scraped Governor Palin up into the cold light of day. I don’t know about you but I’m pretty sick of the humiliatingly fatuous crap getting put out there as political discourse and candidates.
And what exactly does the VP pick have to do with Hurricane Gustav jokes?
They’re both the product of politicization of natural disasters. They’re both proof of how lethal our idiocy has become. [Granted both the jokes and the hurricane itself will have been far less lethal, but still the analogy holds….] Let us hope they are both storms that will pass into history almost completely unremarked.
I been watching Gustaf for several days straight now. Streaming off wdsu.com
You want to put a stop to these crap floods in Louisiana? Get rid of every Senator that stops the Corps of Engineers from doing what they need to do. Stop all the enviornmentalist nonsense and red tape. Stop all the privately owned levies. Make a god damn law, that all the levies are owned by the Corps of Engineers, and any gate, lock, or flood zone be operated by the same.
THEY ARE ENGINEERS! NOT POLITICIANS!
Get the politicians out! PERIOD.
Another thing I noticed about this huricane that I didn’t notice in others, is the LACK OF HAM RADIO OPERATORS. So I guess now it’s all about cops, and military. Citizens are nothing. To be whisked away like sheep and brought back later.
Don’t get me wrong, I think evacuating 1.9 Million people was the smart thing to do.
But why do the only free spirits in this world now have to carry a press pass?
You wan’t to carry a HD camera underneath the T-WALL on the Insdustrial canal? Better have a press pass.
Yet, still, with all this authority, a senator can’t hear a meteorologist, who can’t hear a ACE general who can’t hear a TV station who can’t hear a ham radio who can’t hear a lock operator. So much for all that interagency coordination. I could have communicated better with several pals and CB RADIOS!
I don’t even know if any of it even mattered this time. (which isn’t finished yet as of this moment.)
If you really want to bring GOD into this, PRAY right now and INVOKE YOUR GOD, to disapate Gustav into the four winds, harming none.
