The folks at DU are talking about this caller to O’Reilly’s Radio Factor on Friday claims to have refused a tip to a waitress after she said “Happy Holidays” at the end of the meal.

I am fucking pissed, really, really pissed, at this fucking Christian Charity.
Years ago I was a cook in a nice hotel restaurant in Santa Cruz, CA. One night one of the waiters- a Persian Muslim- came back from serving a large group of people- about a $300 tab- and he was pissed.
He handed me an envelope that said, "Here is your tip…" and inside was a Biblical verse of some kind.
It’s not Christian, it’s not Republican, it’s just rude and cheap. 😥

I waited tables for a while also. Once, a couple left a $10bill sticking partially out of the check holder. I thought, wow, pretty cool. When I opened the book, it was a Christian pamphlet that had the corner made to be a $10 bill. It said "Disappointed? Don’t be, because Jesus died to save you…" or some such bullshit. I thought "Yeah, good way to convert someone – be a total dick to them."
Anyway, people who don’t tip are shit. I got paid $2.13 an hour (New Mexico law discounts waitstaff from minimum wage laws) and counted on tips. Some people don’t realize this.

The Olive Garden is a so called red company. Their affileated with the Outback boys who funnel millions to repubs and financed a drive to stop minimum wages from being raised. Something else interesting about Oliley. Howard Stern said on his radio show that he asked him not to mention his sexual harrasment suit.
I heard the program, and the caller sounded legit to me. I mean, he actually sounded angry that this waitress had wished him "happy holidays", like she had the nerve not to know there was a war on Christmas, for Christ’s sake. Also, both before and after that call, other callers were greeting Bill with a very robust "Merry Christmas". For example>
BILL: "Let’s go to [Tom] in Phoenix. Your in the No-Spin Zone [Tom], what say you?
TOM IN PHOENIX: Merry Christmas, Bill!
I have also heard acquaintance here in red-state land express outrage over secular encroachments on the Christ symbolism of the holiday season. O’Reilly and his ilk are directly responsible for this mindless shit. Let them reap the consequences.
Surely Chirstmas starts in late December, 20th onwards.
I know that in the US the Holiday season starts with Macys parade at the end of November so Happy Holiday’s would in my opinion be the correct salutation at this time. Pity the likes of o’rielly can’t understand this…

Well we all know where O’Reilly’s brains reside, but what in the hell is wrong with Christians. Open up Webster’s Dictionary and you’ll see that the No. 1 definition for holiday is Holy Day. Oh ‘scuse me, I suppose Holy Day could mean Muslim Holy Day or Jewish Holy Day. Yup, really important stuff, much more important than people dying in Iraq and mold in New Orleans, etc., etc. Happy Holidays!

How very sad to know that the caller’s whole Christmas depends on whether or not a waitress wishes him a merry one. Frankly, it shows me the narrowness of the so-called "Christians" who think that the world owes them a Christmas greeting.
By the way, the caller could have been a an O’Reilly plant, and if he was, O’Reilly must be desperate to somehow come across as more "tolerant". Just wanted to say, interestingly here in Oz the term ‘happy holidays’ is never used, can’t speak for the uk but to me it seems a decidedly american cultural saying. Most people here say ‘merry christmas’ or ‘have a good one!’ lol

This was my first impression, also. It’s an understatement to say O’Reilly is "making a mountain out of a mole hill" with this tripe, when weighed against the really important issues of our day.

Fed up re: #34 – Call the owner of the business, and if that doesn’t work, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. And take pictures, and either burn them to disk or have them developed so you have them dated if you have to sue.
