Anyone Wanna Move to Alaska?

Alaska Supreme Court OK’s marijuana use

Juneau, AK, Sep. 15 (UPI) — The state Supreme Court has affirmed the rights of Alaskan adults to possess four ounces of marijuana for personal use in the home.

The ruling lets stand a Court of Appeals’ August 2003 decision that determined a ballot initiative passed by voters in 1990 outlawing any amount of the drug to be unconstitutional.

Alaska is the 12th state to decriminalize the personal use of the drug.

At this time, the Bush/Ashcroft Justice Dept. believes Federal Big Government trumps States Rights and the Choice of the Voters in these matters.

I knew you guys were dopeheads!

So, you are now for states rights?

Wasn’t that what the Civil War was all about? States rights?

I’m thinking of moving to Alaska and would appreciate any and all information you can send me about Juneau, including cost of living, unemployment rate, pictures and names of surrounding lakes, streams, etc.
I’ll be there to visit hopefully sometime in August. Any response would be greatly apreciated. thank you in advance.

    Hi,

I saw your posting on the Brad Blog forum, and would love to talk with you about a new TV series we’re making.

We’re the producers of the successful ABC series Super Nanny. We’re now making a major new documentary series for Discovery, which is aiming to show the realities of taking on a new life in the wilderness. It’s tapping into the escapism we all feel when we look out of our office window – could I lead a fully self-sufficient life in the country? – and then filming with people who are being courageous enough to make that move, and do it for real. It’s all about the improved quality of life, and the challenges we must go through to achieve that.

I’d love to talk the series through with you, as your plans may fit in perfectly.

This will be a series of 3 x 1 hour programmes, with a different family featured each week – all will be leaving their life in the city to take on a new challenge and lifestyle in a remote part of the States. We are aiming to be filming from fall this year, and film on and off all the way until next summer, so we can get a sense of the challenges – and rewards – that each new season bring.

Each programme will feature a local wilderness expert, who will be on hand to act as a mentor and guide to our featured families when they first move to their region.

It would be great to talk it all through – my e-mail is james.christiemiller@ricochet.co.uk or if you let me know the best numbers to call you, I can give you a buzz.

You can view all of our programmes at http://www.ricochet.co.uk

Many thanks for your time – I look forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards,

    James Christie-Miller

I’m an alaskan native and am totally against anyone tyrying to encourage more people to move up here as there is already. Our jails are filled to capacity, more crimes , more alcoholism, more drugs. We have everything here that you outsiders already have, why bother moving up here? There’s enough of rape a nd pillage of our native lands that the white people are already doing, and wanting to do more. Soon there won’t be anywhere to escape
the metro life in the city. Move to antartica if what you want is escape from the big cities you’ve already created ! Don’t create another city here !

I agree that there are enough problems, especially in Anchorage. However, anyone who chooses to move to Alaska has to be "marching to a different drummer" for sure. I have been up twice and this next time I will be moved for good. I CHOOSE to live in Alaska and all of it’s beauty. I respect your right to be irritated at non natives moving up, but unless you are Alaska Native (Eskimo, etc) your ancestors immigrated up also. And probably for less altruistic reasons than the beauty and peacefullness of Alaska.

As for rebecca….. I am a primitive technologist, and live in the southeast, does that make me a rapist or murderer c’mon. Alaska can house this entire state plus Montana and have room to escape not that i’d encorage that, however people who yearn to be a part of wildlife and wilderness Alaska is heaven. I do not think that your assesment of urban sprawl is quite correct. And if you do not want any more people in alaska aside yourself, do the state a favor and you move.

Alaska is a state of fugitives. There are so many criminals here it is outragous. The work ethic is the worst of all the states. They come and go as they please, way too much drama in their pathetic worthless lives. I try and run a business only to find that regardless who is hired they all steal from me.

Half of all applicants have a criminal history! murder, rape and felony assault sprinkle that with drug charges.

The beauty and wildlife don’t make up for nor excuse the low life qauilty if people that make up most of Alaska. Sooner or later the scum drive out the good, lawfull folks who do love and enjoy Alaska. I for one am leaving soon for thta very reason. Do business with people up here for a year and you will soon see the crookedness that is everywhere.

Don’t move here unless you have to and then as what has been said already…Alaska truly sucks!!!

I’ve been reading some of these comments and it is aggravating when newcomers move in on a native land. But you must also think of this: Anywhere you go in the world, you will deal with thieves, felons, rapists, and murderers. Unfortunatlly, we all have to deal with this. I found this site because my husband and I are looking for somewhere beautiful and different to live. The things I listed above do not stop me from pursuing a move to alaska, or anywhere else in the world for that matter. Because no matter where you go, there they are. It’s up to the individual to make where you live a happy place. 🙂

Ahhh….don’t let some of these people scare ya…

I’ve lived and worked in Alaska at least 5 times since 1986 and after you are there, you’ll know the parts of Anchorage or Fairbanks to stay away from.

At the ripe young age of 54 and being a retired airline freight captain, have decided to finally settle my bones in Anchorage by next summer. It’s one year away, but the year will go by fast as I scramble to organize my belongings here in Tennessee. I’ll be driving in September 07 as winter approaches. I’ve driven the Alcan 3 times.

I intend to finish up my 4 year degree at U of A where I started in 86′ and will find a nice lady to spend the rest of my life with, eat halibut at "F Street" and drink my coffee at "Blondies" in the mornings.

After leaving Alaska several times, and then choosing to retire there, says that I’m not concerned about what others say negatively to dissuade you from going to Alaska.

They don’t want to share 🙁

    Dave
