The Orlando Sentinel has noticed the “Clint Curtis Is Crazy” campaign being run by Tom Feeney. It’s hard not to notice, I’d say, when a three-ring binder full of stories about Clint Curtis lands in your lap.
Scott Maxwell, whose reporting we were fortunate to encounter just the other day, chips in with a line-item from his blog:
There’s quite a bit more more detail from Robert Perez in a piece called Congressional race gets ‘crazy’ fast which begins like this:
Although he has amassed a million-dollar war chest and has much better name recognition than Democratic challenger Clint Curtis, Feeney isn’t holding back about his opponent, a Titusville computer programmer who raised less than $25,000 in the primary.
Feeney has labeled his opponent “the craziest man in America.”
“Serious times demand serious leaders and Curtis is not even in the same solar system as the rest of us,” Feeney says in a recent press release.
I think you should read all of it, especially because it says
He accused the congressman of helping to rig elections.
Curtis, whose campaign centers on his concerns about the integrity of America’s voting system, has said in dozens of public forums — and under oath — that Feeney asked him and his former employer to create a software program to fix elections in 2000.
Feeney has repeatedly denied the accusations, and now it appears his campaign has decided to simply discount Curtis as a kook.
and
Curtis said he passed a polygraph test administered by a retired Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent that verifies he is telling the truth about Feeney. He has challenged Feeney to do the same.
“He won’t show up for a polygraph, and he won’t respond to the allegations,” said Curtis, whose campaign has produced buttons and T-shirts that urge, “Take The Test, Tom.”
and it ends this way:
“Did we have a contest?” he asked. “Cause if we did, I missed it.”
So that’s today’s coverage from Orlando. Yesterday in nearby Oveido, home of the Seminole Chronicle, Ace Reporter and Managing Editor Alex Babcock had a piece about the Feeney campaign called Feeney: Conspiracy man following my plan which starts like this:
Take for example the campaign being mounted by Feeney, who says he’s in a good-versus-evil campaign, evoking the image that his opponent, Clint Curtis, has used, but in reverse. While Curtis has long portrayed Feeney as being evil, Feeney counters that Curtis is the one who’s actually evil.
They could both be right. Odds are Curtis has his heart in the right place, though, since he’s making improving the elections system the foundation of his campaign. He’s made some fairly sensational claims about Feeney in the past, though, which Feeney is now using to claim Curtis is crazy.
This is another case where I think you should read the whole piece.
And finally, according to the San Diego Union Tribune, Francine Busby’s funding has been cut by the DCCC:
More important, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ““ whose financing of Busby forced their Republican counterparts to pour $5 million into the special election ““ has cut the money pipeline, no longer ranking the contest as among the most competitive in America.
Being dropped in this fashion “makes it all but impossible for a challenger to raise the big bucks necessary to put on a competitive race,” said Allan Hoffenblum, publisher of the nonpartisan California Target Book, which analyzes California politics. “I don’t see where she has the bucks, but you never know on these things.”
Attorney Paul Lehto, who is much better versed in the CA-50 situation than I am, says:

I just do not see crazy when I read this stuff. I think “Goody, more press!”
Thanks for doing the legwork, WP!
Balderdash. All of it. Top to bottom.
Poppycock, I say!
Clint can’t take his eye off the ball. His book tells all we need to know! I bought two more copies for friends! I cry every time I read the part about his tiny pomeranian being poisoned. Go get em’ Clint!
Emma
I have seen and touched the book. I feel unclean.
At the very least, maybe there will be a little investigation going on as Brad has done. If people are exposed to Clint’s story through the mainstream press, they will be riveted. This is especially true in regard to Feeney’s relationship with Wang Enterprises. They had a foriegn spy working within the company and handled contracts with NASA as I remember and they shared office space in the same building at one time.
Also, this may bring a few reporters over to take a look at BradBlog and that is not a bad thing at all.
I think you should repost the Ray Lemme murder and the ties to Feeney, and Clint should bring it up.
As is common for Republicans, Feeney dares not run on the issues, so he tries to smear his opponent using fictional ‘data’.
Has anybody at all seen the book? It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. In fact,it makes Clint look completely sane.
Personally, the link between Lemme and Feeney is incredibly interesting but I think he can get the most mileage out of talking about the Yang information. He should stick to one of two of Feeney’s “issues” and come out swinging on those. I fear that if he exposes too much, the message will get lost.
Feeney is a weenie
Michelle, I can’t tell if you are pro the book, or against it. Please stop using words like “craziest.” Why did seeing and touching the book make you feel “unclean?”
Hopefully it was the revelations inside the book that made you uneasy. Voting fraud is enough to make any true patriot sick to there stomach.
Chris,
My point was that if Clint wants to win, he needs to streamline his accusations. He needs to choose only a couple of Feeney’s many missteps and come out swinging on those.
I didn’t need the revelations in the book made me feel
uneasy. They were not “revelations” to me.
Oops….bad typing. It should have said:
“I didn’t need the revelations in the book to make me feel uneasy.”
I was one of the “bad” reporters who he included in his book. How else do you think I actually got to see a preview copy?
Good to hear, Michelle. I think that Feeney asking him create some vote-rigging software is clearly the most pertinent of all the issues. All the threads run together, though, and it is inevitable that once you start pulling on one of them, the whole thing comes unraveled.
We, obviously, understand how it all ties but the general public isn’t like you and me and doesn’t have the attention to look beyond the first paragraph of a news story.
It was unnerving on election night to hear Mr. Feeney call our newspaper “dumbass” for reporting the undisputed facts.
Hi Michelle: it’s a treat to hear from you here. Please keep up the good work … and by the way can you drop me a line via email? thanks!

Trolls are out. Repubs are in trouble. If my Senator, Olympia Snowe comes up my way to campaign, I want to ask her about the money lost since Bushco has been in office…and what is the senate doing in the way of oversight. Over 2 trillion lost in the DOD alone. No one prosecuted. I think about such things every time I sit down in the Wal Mart toilet and see a little sign that says. Up to 2 years in prison and 5,ooo dollar fine for taking one of their trinkets. I buy dog food at wally world and am not proud of it. Clint Curtis is going to win.
Sorry if I sound like I trust no one…but what sort of “reporter” goes on a blog and gives political advice to a partisan candidate? I’d be careful, Clint! That sure doesn’t sound like any reporter I’ve ever known.
Emma
I wasn’t necessarily giving any advice to Clint that I wouldn’t give to anybody else. Pick one or two issues and come out slamming. Basic campaign 101 stuff.
Emma, you don’t know me, but please be clear that I am still a reporter and will report the truth, no matter what. Folks here know exactly who I am, so please don’t question my motives with your paranoia.
But you clearly said….”if Clint wants to win, he needs to streamline his accusations. He needs to choose only a couple of Feeney’s many missteps and come out swinging on those.” THAT SOUNDS LIKE ADVICE TO ME!
There are a lot of us here who believe that it ALL needs to come out…the murder of a DOT investigator, the killing of clint’s dogs, etc. If he just says one little thing he will have little or no credibility. That’s my thought and I am sorry if you are offended but I really, really have NEVER EVER heard of a real “reporter” giving political advice and if that wasn’t advice I don’t know what it is!
Emma
Relax, Emma. We know Michelle. She’s a Good-Guy!
And you’re misquoting and/or misinterpreting her too. She never said “I DIDN’T GIVE ADVICE” … what she SAID was:
Michelle is absolutely correct about this next bit, too:
Yes! it all has to come out, eventually. But to lead with all of it at the same time is way too confusing, even for the average super-intelligent American voter.
OK…if you know her and vouch for her I’ll relax. I’m sorry if I was a little sensitive but I have visions of reporters for the Sentinel or Florida Today giving advice to Feeney on how to beat Clint! I’ve just never seen reporters do this sort of thing publicly and it un-nerved me a bit. I do apologize.
Obviously she is a reporter who doesn’t hide her true feelings.
Emma
Oh, I am always trying to hide my feelings but there are certain times that they sneak out. Been watching Feeney for nearly 2 years. I know what’s up with him. I’ll keep watching as well and will let you all know what I find.
I can do you one better…I’ve been watching him for 4 years now. I have lived in the area for 40 years and never, ever have I seen anyone like him. Perhaps some day we can compare notes!
Emma
WP, such dry sarcasm could easily be overlooked:
“…even for the average super-intelligent American voter.”
If only that were true.
Chris,
Ahhh yes…if only it were true. If the electorate were “super-intelligent” we wouldn’t be in this mess!
Emma
I found this blog thanks to the orlando sentinel. I hate to burst the collective bubble here, but Feeney is going to wipe the floor with this Curtis guy. Tom is very well liked and very well respected. People are not going to buy into these seemingly outlandish claims by Curtis. Save yourselves a lot of time and find something else to obsess over. For example, I bet a lot of you think 9/11 was an inside job and islamic extremists had nothing to do with it. Maybe think about turning your energies to that equally believable theory.
Johnny,
Go “troll” somewhere else!!! I’ve been following this story for so long that you “Johnny come lately’s” bore me….go tell it to the electorate. From where I sit, Feeney is history!!!
Emma
WP:
I would suggest that comment #27, #28, and #29 be removed in their entirety — sent down the “memory hole” the same way the Republicans do.
If we don’t play the game the way Rove does, we don’t have a chance in hell.
Charlie L
Friend of Democracy.
Emma,
You can e-mail me privately. WP has my e-mail address. I do not want to post it here.
Michelle,
I sent an e-mail to Winter Patriot and asked him to forward to you so you’d have mine. f56e7
Emma
Charlie L- I’m disappointed that someone who calls themself a “Friend of Democracy” would advocate the erasing of my comments. Aren’t ALL voices supposed to be heard no matter how much you may disagree with them? Shame on you.
Emma- I am no troll. I am a life long Orlando Democrat who probably agrees with Tom Feeney 15% of the time. Having said that, I know many democrats who worked with Feeney in the Florida legislature and all though they didn’t agree with him most of the time they tell me he was always a fair and honorable person. This Clint Curtis stuff is not going to fly. It’s as simple as that. When it comes to communicating his conservative message combined with his track record in the state house and now in congress, the voters in that GOP heavy district are going to overwhelmingly support Tom. I don’t like it as much as the next good Democrat. But the fact is, the only way we will have a chance of defeating Tom Feeney is if we win in the arena of ideas. Running some computer software kook whose only media supporter is Hustler magazine is a recipe for electoral embaressment. I’m sick of my party being embaressed by the likes of Clint Curtis and Michael Moore. Luckily my fellow Democrats were smart in an adjacent district when they nominated a serious candidate in the form of Charlie Stuart to challenge GOP incumbent Ric Keller. Now Stuart is a serious man whose campaign I can happily support. But Clint Curtis? Get real guys.
Having said all that, I know you all care very much about our country and I know your hearts are in the right place. I commend you for your passion.
Johnny,
You seem to be a reasonable guy but obviously you haven’t read Clint’s book! Feeney not only ordered software to control the elections, he either master minded or took part in the murder of the man investigating this and other transgression. When Clint started fighting back he was intimidated. His dog was poisoned and the latch on the hood of his car was tampered with….coincidence? I don’t think so.
I’d suggest that this isn’t the place for you. You will convince no one here that Tom Feeney doesn’t need to go. I’m sure you mean well but you do need to move on to another blog.
