Groundbreaking Voting Technology Breakthrough in L.A. Mayoral Race!

According to the LA Times

City Clerk Frank Martinez used a different voting system, which meant few problems Tuesday with collecting ballots and counting votes.

In place of the InkaVote system, voters Tuesday were handed a simple paper ballot that listed each race or issue and required them to use a marker to fill in an oval next to their choices.

Imagine that.

Mr. Martinez should be nominated for the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize or something. I admire his genius!

Right MMIIXX. So paper ballot voting should be 1/3 and really should be less, but you know they have to overcharge for everything. How else would the repukes get their campaign funds?

I meant 1/3 of $56 which would be around $19 but really should be less than that.

    Sheesh.

Strangely enough, this election was a step back into time. Back into the pre-fascist days when politics were politics. Not discussions of what stand on the latest crimes the neocons are taking.

Back when elections were done the old fashioned way – the candidates earned the votes.

The election went the way I would have preferred, in terms of candidates too. Hahn was too much of a gestapo police supporter during the times when attempts were made to clean up the force – before the Rampart scandal that revealed the cops actually killed innocent people, maimed, and framed a great number of people.

Hahn as City Attorney (before he became mayor) should have stopped or strongly resisted the rubber stamping of the injustice. The cops tabs of millions of dollars in lawsuits for doing brutality were simply paid as a matter of course.

It got so bad that the federal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals allowed personal lawsuits against city council members for "depriving citizens of their federal rights under color of state law". Generally those types of government officials have immunity from damages in such lawsuits.

Because those government officials, in effect, sanctioned the police brutality and fraud by paying the bad cops’ lawsuit tabs for them, the federal court allowed them to also be held liable.

Hahn was defeated by a person who will be much more resistant to police brutality.

Well, I have to say – we just voted in our primary here in a little town in PA. And since we’ve moved here almost 2 years ago we’ve voted twice. And each time we’ve had paper ballots and #2 pencils. When you go in, you show proof of who you are and that you live here. They hand you a sheet giving you a run down of everything you are voting on and a ballot. You take your sheets and pencil into a little booth – fill out your ballot, seal it in an envelope, come out and put it into a locked box.

I asked them who had the key to the box. It seems there is a team of people from all sides who unlock the box after the voting is over. The sealed envelopes are taken out and counted and the totals are then handed over to some one else. Then the totals are given to someone. Then they are given to someonen else and are announced or something like that. My whole point to this is – paper ballots are a better idea than the e-voting or whatever. But I’d really like to know better how these votes are counted. I guess there must be some kind of checks and balance to it all otherwise any link in that chain of passing on the votes could mess with the numbers.

Although if the commitee that counts the votes are honest – then they know who won long before it is announced and if there are any mix ups I guess they could blow the whistle. But how is that team picked and how do I know they are honest? How do you know if anyone is honests anymore.

Good comment. STC18 – At the end of the day it’s up to us, the citizens, to do the work!

    STC #18

The entire procedure of unlocking the box and counting the votes should be an affair open to public viewing. Is it?
