New pre-trial filings by Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald in the Scooter Libby perjury trial related to the outting of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame, seem to draw Dick Cheney still closer to the center of the scandal, MSNBC’s David Schuster is now reporting.
In the newly released documents, defendant Libby denies having seen Cheney’s handwritten notes on the margins of a 2003 NY Times op/ed, in which Cheney raises questions about Plame’s involvement in former Ambassador Joe Wilson’s fact-finding trip to Niger. In the op/ed, Wilson exposes what he didn’t find on that trip — evidence that Saddam was attempting to purchase uranium from Niger.

Meanwhile, legal experts say the latest Libby filing could be telling for what the defense does not argue. Libby does not challenge the prosecution statement that on the day columnist Robert Novak first disclosed Valerie Wilson’s identity, a quote “CIA official discussed in the defendant’s presence the dangers posed by disclosure of the CIA affiliation of one of its employees as had occurred in the Novak column. This evidence directly contradicts the defense position.”

Libby saw the notes. This is all part of an ongoing cover-up (it will never end, even if Libby and others are convicted). One lie to cover another lie.
"I don’t recall" is politician-speak for "I’m not going to admit to that, you idiot." I’m sure Fitzgerald knows this, but he also knows you can’t convict someone of perjury for saying "I don’t recall…." This doesn’t strengthen the case against Libby, so it might be Fitzgerald’s way of creating a separate case against Cheney. Let’s hope so.

I know, I’m just kidding, that segment is specifically designed to waste time, and give Tucker Carlson another "part in the play", so his mom won’t get mad.
The name "Hardball" should be changed to "Volleyball" or "Spongeball." It’s just "Crossfire" in a different format…instead of opposing sides in a pillow fight, Matthews takes both sides himself and creates his own faux battle.
Watch Matthews closely. One night he’s a staunch defender of Bush, the next night he creates his own issue for Bush’s critics ("Did he break the law…?").
The questions are never answered. That’s just as Matthews wants it, because people won’t tune in the next night if they are. It’s all about ratings, not truth. The only hardball is the battle for audience.

For Martin: Matthews is a lefty when he wants to appeal to a left-wing audience. But when that ticks off his right-wing viewers, he flips back to the right to appease them.
He can take any position on any issue, and starts off every program with a new point of view for that day. If one of his interviewees answers one of his questions in the wrong way, he interrupts the answer and poses a new question to keep control of the dialogue. It’s 100% phony, and if you believe that Matthews has any particular ideology, left or right, you’re just as naive as the rest of his silly audience.

I do like Shuster’s reports though. Too bad Oberman has to devote 90% of his show to unadulterated crap. He did a horrible job of "covering" the 2004 election aftermath. You would have thought they could have had more then 30 seconds of video shown a thousand times, (every night) from Ohio that made sure people went to sleep!

What a wild ride! What’s amazing is that they didn’t bail out sooner! It looks like it almost crashed once before it went back up.
Years ago, a few miles from my house, an F-111 fighter jet ran into trouble. They were the first fighter with wings that could be swept back for high speed or folded straight out for low speed.
The pilot instructed the co-pilot to bail then rolled the plane over into a straight down dive. He stayed with it until the last second before bailing and successfully crashed it into a tomato field instead of houses. He was hailed as a hero.
