My guess is Bush knows less about ranching than he does homosexuality. The Bible doesn't say much about ranching.
(OK, I know that the Bible doesn't say much about homosexuality either...at least not the new testament)

Bush’s awkward comment regarding his viewing of Brokeback Mountain is yet another example that our president cannot think and talk at the same time. Dubya’s embarrassing remark was rude and insulting to gays. He is the one that should head on back to the ranch! I would suggest the man read the book, but it would cause his brain to go into overload trying comprehend all 55 pages!

Correct me if I'm wrong on this .... at the very end of Bush's speech (not the Q&A session) at todays Manhattan, Kansas Landon Lecture didn't he say something about "Congress gave him the power to make the laws" ..... or " he made the laws" ????????

Did anyone else notice how much Bush was grinding his teeth, moving his lower jaw back and forth, like a cocaine or amphetamine user during this speech? I've noticed it a lot lately in various public appearances. It didn't seem like he used to do that as much. Hmmm...

Despite Wolf trying his best to twist the argument, misquoting what he had said just 10 seconds earlier, accusing him of anti-semitism, retreading old quotes over and over, and getting facts wrong and then playing dumb.......... yeah, I'd say Belafonte gave him a proper thrashing.

His reaction to the BM question was insulting, glib and homophobic. I've come to expect the worst from him as a leader. Now, I see further evidence that he does not practice the Christian beliefs he proclaims to cherish. Love thy neighbor? Treat others as you wish to be treated?
How dare he!
Gay men and women are tax payers and deserve his respect and protection. His response only serves to reinforce the behaviors and beliefs that lead to the violence depicted in the film. He showed much discomfort and was very unprofessional when responding to the topic. By doing this, the President, has provided a form of vindication to the attitudes of the villians in the film. These "villians", as a result of narrowminded beliefs such as Mr. Bush's, take a tire iron to a rancher and murder him, simply because he was gay.
Maybe the President should see the film. It might educate him and eliminate some the the stereotypes he must believe. If this were not true, he would have had a more statesmanlike response to the question! He are free to "not like it", but he has a higher responsibility as the President of this country.

What cities does Ford make most of their cars in these days? Are those mostly what you'd call Democratic cities?
Is there a trend of Democratic cities & states taking it in the gut?
---
Speaking of movies: I just saw The Hunting of the President this evening. It's not bad, but they could've made it about 3 times longer and done a much better job. I wonder if some part of my money goes to Hillary's campaign fund? I hope not.
The movie really makes you want to drag Kennth Starr and Richard Melon Scaife out of their cozy homes and beat the shit out of 'em. God that movie makes me want to cheer for Susan McDougal (whatever her reasons were).

Somebody give that brave Kansian/Wisconsonian(eh) the Congressional Medal of Honor, a gold star, and a lifetime supply of Wonka Bars!
(Oh, but also let him know that he won't have long to enjoy any of it, as he will probably suffer a tragic, fatal "accident" of some type or mysteriously disappear in the black of night in the very near future.)
C'mon, Bush--putting you on the spot and causing you to work your jaw like a copy machine may be utterly "terrifying" for you, but I don't think it legally makes him a "terrorist". (Not that you have anyone to answer to for his immediate "disposal" under the Patriot Act...)

Big Dan,
Only Wolf can take - "Maybe if people spoke out early on, Germany wouldn't have been in the place it was" - and respond with - "So you're blaming the Jews for the Holocaust?" (emphasis his)
Liberal media, conservative media... I don't give a shit anymore. These people are just flat out STUPID. I mean, completely incapable of critical thought and analysis, and incredibly dependent on sound-bite knowledge and talking points (be it republican, democrat, or their own).
Wolf has gotten quite used to getting his ass handed to him though, he's got the whole "*HUFF*, unfornately we'll have to leave it there" thing down.

I hope you realize the AUDACITY of Wolf saying, "So, you're blaming the Jews for the Holocaust." The outright AUDACITY of that asshole, to put words like that in someone's mouth! Does everyone realize this? Would he say something like that to a Republican? It's "OK", because Belefonte is a "liberal", so Wolf Blitzer can make statements like, "So, you're blaming the Jews for the Holocaust?" He also said, "So, you're saying what Hitler said is OK?"
This is outright proof that the MSM is rightwing biased! Wolf Blitzer is outrageously biased towards the Republicans/conservatives/rightwingers.
Did you notice, since Anderson Cooper handed the Republicans and FEMA their ass during hurricane Katrina, he no longer follows Lou Dobbs @ 7pm? Am I the only one who notices these things?

I can't be sure because I can't find a clip of it anywhere, but Wolf may have introduced him as a "liberal entertainer and activist." Maybe I heard it wrong. But were they to have say, Paul Craig Roberts on, whats the likelyhood of them introducing him as a "conservative activist". In the idiotic media world, any disagreement with Bush = liberal.
If you saw his interview with the author of "Rogue State", he pulled the same tricks. Guest says something, Wolf feigns shock and outrage, puts up a strawman or twists what the guest just said, guest articulates their point and doesn't back down a bit, Wolf can't comprehend why they won't give in to his pressuring them and ends the interview.
No honest questions, no curiosity, no responsibility to present the guests point of view.. this was an all out attack. Divert, Deceive, Destroy. At least Belafonte responded articulately to everything that was thrown at him.

Seriously though, perhaps you got raped by a priest, or perhaps your uncle. I can understand how an experience like that can be traumatizing for you, but there are support groups out there. You should find one and get some help, you sound like you are in some emotional pain.
Having said that, YOU need to find out where to stick it.

I'm sorry I still see someone who is being fed responses and mistakenly repeated the first thing that was said to him by the comment "feeder" (a private joke between Bush and him or herself). Then Bush momentarily stares off into space like he's listening briefly and repeats and "I hadn't seen it' , which of course is grammatically incorrect but was Bush's first real response.

As an additional note, he was clearly embarassed and didn't know if he was supposed to say it or not and did by mistake. The guy talking to him was probably saying just that...."no, no, I didn't mean for you to say that"......because he quickly finishes with a very hurried " I hadn't seen it!"

It seems that you are 100% correct there. Particularily the local newscasters.
They sit and read what is handed to them with no thought whatsoever.
A classic example was when they were talking about the new scramjet engine they were testing at NASA. The test plane achieved a speed of approx. 7 times the speed of sound.
The reporter stated it traveled at 7 times the speed of light.
At that velocity it would travel from here to the sun in 68.6 seconds. (Not to mention per Einstien that velocity could never be reached).

Thanks to that brave young student who flustered President Bush by asking if he had seen Brokeback Mountain last Monday at Kansas State University. Bush's response demonstrated his total lack of ability to think on his feet and to deliver a coherent answer to an unscripted question.
Another astonishing moment, barely remarked upon by the press, was when a student asked about the $12.7 blllion recently cut from federal student loan programs. After feigning ignorance of the cuts, Bush then tried to convince us that the student loan program has been reformed and made better. Many of my students could inform you otherwise.
By the way, regardless of what the White House press secretary claimed, the kid asking Bush about Brokeback Mountain never claimed that he was rancher. Also, contrary to the press secretary's claims, most of the KSU faculty did not attend. In fact, there were many vacant seats in the section allotted to the faculty.

I've never been to this site before, but it has amazed me. Bush hasn't seen the damn movie. Get over it. It doesn't mean he hates gays. It doesn't mean he's some sort of evil asshole. What it means is... oh my god... he was caught off guard and had not seen the movie. It annoys me when people try to pick up on little nonsense types of things such as this and blow them into a huge deal.
Before this encounter, were all of you of the opinion that Bush was in total support of homosexuals? Nothing that has happened here should be a surprise (accepting your interpretation of his gestures). I'll bet most Texas ranchers have not bothered to see the movie. I'll also bet that most of them don't bother to try and cover up why they haven't seen it. Get over it! Bush is a real person. He's not a polished and manufactured politician (eg, Gore), and as such, you're going to have occurrences like this.
You are all just taking advantage to try and create a bitch platform and it’s pitiful. If Bush would have seen the movie and tried to make up some shit about acceptance, you would all be on here bitching that he was "lying" again and because he was lying.. that makes it even worse, blah blah blah. I didn't vote for Bush, believe it or not, but I look at these things objectively and in this situation, I don't see a legitimate criticism.
Additionally, what the hell is the deal about him being a coke head?? Jesus Christ! I'm glad I'm not on a trial and you are the jury. You'd be in the deliberation room saying, "well... did you see it, the defendant clenched his jaw!!! Did you see it!!! That must mean he's a coke fiend. He's guilty. Guilty bitch Guilty!!!" What the hell?
If you don't want him to judge your homo movie (which I think was the best film of the year) then think twice about making such meaningless judgments yourself. It does nothing but make you look desperate for criticism, it's reaching and it's sad.
I've probably spent too much time here.
btw - "per Einstein" 7 times the speed of light can be reached... just not by those objects traveling at less that the speed of light to begin with.

Bush hesitates to discuss "Brokeback"
Associated Press
published Tuesday, January 24, 2006
MANHATTAN, Kan. --- Asked his opinion of the movie "Brokeback Mountain," President Bush hemmed and hawed.
"You would love it. You should check it out," a man in the audience told Bush Monday during a question and answer session at Kansas State University.
After some hesitation --- and laughter in the audience --- Bush said, "I'd be glad to talk about ranching, but I haven't seen the movie." The audience laughed some more, and Bush, who owns a ranch in Texas, allowed that, "I've heard about it."
"Brokeback Mountain" is a cowboy romance about two ranch-hand buddies who conceal a long homosexual affair from their families. The movie has won four Golden Globe prizes, including best picture honors in the drama category.

I will be the first one to insult Bush and kick him to the curve. I believe the homophobe has never even taken the time to talk to a real homosexual. But just because a person hasn't seen the movie doesn't mean they intend to insult gays. Previously stated, I am a homosexual too, but because I am still living under my conservative parents house and do not have my own car, I cannot see the movie. Does that mean I am too insulting to gays? Am I a hypocryte? And what about you people have haven't seen "Roots"? Is it insulting to blacks that you haven't seen Roots? well, guess what. I am black and I too haven't seen Roots either. Hypocryte again. Its a great movie of our time, but that doesn't mean everyone has to see it, or for that matter, like it.

surely Mr Bush should be spending 24/7 on matters of importance for the US + the whole world?
Brokeback Mountain is one thing he can be forgiven for not having seen (unlike many major problems overseas)

Pete loves to hear his own voice....
Most of you are effed up in the head. I dislike the prez as much as the next upstanding (or downlaying) American but I appreciate, at the very least, that he's being as honest as his skull full of mush will let him. Would you rather he lied (again) and said he'd seen it and it really touched him? Would you prefer he said that homo's are people too in front of the camera and then do everything in his power to eradicate them from the face of the earth?
Truth is, I'm struggling with the fact that he is a liar only because I think he's not smart enough to be good at it. Cheney, on the other hand.........

He never anwsered part (a) of the two part question. He did anwser part (b) three times, but it doesn't really give an explicit solution to what was asked. It implies that hes is too uncomfortable talking about this matter. If we really wanted to know what his opinion really is about this, maybe we should consult an intelligence expert, like that ranch owner Katharine Armstrong. After all, she is more qualified...

What did you people expect him to say? That he loved a movie about two queers? Give it a rest. Why is everyone so fired up about this movie? It really hasn't done all that well in the theaters anyways. The numbers I've seen say its only made about 76 million pre oscar And most people I've talked to say they have not and will not see it. According to the powers that be, a movie needs to make at least 100 million to be considered a blockbuster. So my question is why was BBM even nominated? And for that matter, why was any of the movies? CRASH, CAPOTE, etc. None of these movies made over 100 million but the Chronicles of Narnia made 300 million and was not nominated for best picture. The Passion of the Christ made 400 million and wasn't nominated at all last year. HMMMMMMM, makes you think don't it? Man I'm sick of Hollywood.
This is a clear cut case of the liberal agenda trying to force their homosexual opinions on us. And I for one am sick of it. I'm sick of seeing it on TV, in politics (gay marriage) and now in the movies. Homosexuality goes against nature and God. You ever see two bucks doin it in the woods? Leviticus 18:22 says: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. I mean really, how much more proof do you need?
Go ahead and call me anything you want, personally I don't care. I don't have to answer to you. I have to answer to God and you will to. I don't claim to be perfect by any means. I'm a sinner just like the rest of you but I know what sin is and homosexuality is a sin plain and simple. Get over it, accept it for what it is and move on. One more thing. People are not born gay. There is no gay gene no matter what they tell you, it is a choice GET OVER IT!!!!!!!

Now, if someone judges you by the Law, including Leviticus 18:22, show them the following scripture:
James 2:10
For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. (NIV)
Anyone who judges you by Leviticus 18:22 better stop pointing fingers at you and start making all those sacrifices, worshiping at a tabernacle, and eating beetles and grasshoppers instead of shrimp, pork and lobster. But as for us "Christ is the end of the Law" and the beginning of a great love relationship between God and us!

This is Leviticus 18:22.
Did I say that, really? What on earth was I thinking. You'd use my drunken rantings as proof? You must be an idiot!
I changed my mind. You can lie down with whomever you please as long as you keep your chastity belt on, and as long as you let us coach you to be the worst president ever if we catch you being bad!

Apologies for the repetition, but it wasn't intentional.
