'BradCast' 12/15/2023 (Encore: Election expert Kevin Skoglund on major failure of Northampton County, PA touchscreen voting system)
12-15-2023 (52.35 MB)
Original airdate 12-4-2023. On today's 'BradCast': We have a doozy of a story on the mind-boggling failure of touchscreen voting systems in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. In last month's election, machines made by ES+S printed ballots registering the OPPOSITE of what voters had selected on the touchscreens. But the machine only flipped the votes on the human-readable portion of the ballot, not the barcodes also printed on the ballot -- which humans cannot read but is used for tabulation -- causing chaos on Election Day. Election technology expert KEVIN SKOGLUND, of Pennsylvania's non-profit Citizens for Better Elections, investigated, and explains his new report detailing the simple programming error that caused so much chaos. Skoglund discusses the disturbing security implications of such errors, including potential use by malicious actors to sow doubt about election results, what officials must do to solve such failures in the 2024 election, and much more. Other voting system security experts call in to share their expertise on this disturbing voting system failure. Also today: a boatload of news headlines.
