'BradCast' 7/5/2024 (Encore: Randall D. Eliason on SCOTUS' public corruption ruling; SCOTUS nixes EPA pollution rule)
07-05-2024 (53.17 MB)
Encore: original airdate 6-27-2024. On today's 'BradCast': The corrupted rightwing supermajority on the US Supreme Court issued several rulings on Thursday, including rejecting a multi-billion dollar nationwide opioid settlement with the makers of OxyContin; slashing the ability of the SEC to enforce anti-fraud laws; and temporarily requiring Idaho to perfrom emergency abortion care under federal law -- conveniently postponing a political hot potato until after the critical 2024 Presidential election. SCOTUS also halted the EPA's 'Good Neighbor Rule' curbing pollution from power plants that drifts into downwind states. Still undecided: whether the rightwing justices will overturn the landmark 'Chevron Deference' doctrine that underpins agencies' authority to regulate. White collar crime expert Randall Eliason explains why the SCOTUS ruling that appears to legalize bribery of public officials isn't as clear-cut as it first appears, and a potentially explosive ruling that could upend January 6 insurrection prosecutions. Plus Desi Doyen has our new 'Green News Report.'
