'BradCast' 10/28/2022 (Recounted: Potentially 'catastrophic' GOP House takeover; Supporting voters at the polls)

10-28-2022 (52.19 MB)

'BradCast' Recounted: On today's show, we've put together some of our favorite recent interviews that you may have missed. First up:  With the critical 2022 midterm elections fast approaching, Republicans have detailed some of the political nightmares they plan to unleash on the country if they win a majority in the House or Senate. In their own words, Republicans plan endless investigations (think 'Benghazi on steroids'), pointless culture war bills, relentless impeachment investigations into President Biden and members of his cabinet, blocking Biden's judicial nominees, etc. Republicans have also publicly pledged to wreak extraordinary damage to the U.S. and global economy by refusing to raise the debt ceiling, holding the nation hostage to force severe cuts to Social Security and Medicare and more. Congressional historian and political scientist NORM ORNSTEIN explains the history of the debt ceiling, how increasingly radical Republicans have weaponized it, and potential tools that could neutralize GOP debt ceiling brinkmanship. Then: Election Defenders is organizing to ensure everyone can vote freely and fairly. ANGELA PEOPLES, Campaign Director for Election Defenders, explains how the organization is mobilizing across the country, particularly in battleground states, to train volunteers in de-escalation techniques at polling places and in concrete ways to support voters who may be intimidated by fear-based tactics of rightwing groups or targeted by partisan pollwatchers. The group is welcoming volunteers to ensure voters have the information and assistance they need, that no voter is denied their right to cast a ballot, and that voting is a calm, joyful experience for all.
