'BradCast' 8/31/2020 (Lulu Friesdat and Robin Gibson on L.A. County's failed, unverifiable touchscreen voting system)

08-31-2020 (53.54 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':   We broke the news in January that independent security testers found more than 40 critical security issues in Los Angeles' County's unverifiable, $300 million touchscreen voting system during certification testing. But the new system was conditionally certified and used anyway in the state's March 3 primary, and failed spectacularly, causing long lines.  It is impossible to verify if any of the ballots printed out by L.A.'s expensive Ballot-Marking Device (BMD) system actually reflected the actual intent of any voter, or if results are accurate in any election that uses BMDs for the majority of voters in any state.  The voter's selections are embedded in an unverifiable, hackable QR code -- which can't be verified by voter -- then scanned by optical-scan computer tabulators to tabulate each ballot, rather the human-readable text print out that the voter is able to read.  Now, in new certification testing of the system before the crucial Nov. 2020 election, security experts found that many of the same issues and problems remain.  Journalist LULU FRIESDAT of SmartElections.us and ROBIN GIBSON, longtime Los Angeles election integrity advocate, join us to explain the flaws found in the latest round of security testing of L.A.'s system, and actions and potential mitigations that elections officials can take to improve security and usability. They also offer actions that voters in every state can take to protect election integrity, and stop these faulty, dangerously unsecure BMD touchscreen voting systems that are rapidly proliferating across the country. Callers weigh in with comments and questions about these terrible new systems, just 64 days before Election Day, and mere weeks before early voting is set to begin...
