On today's 'BradCast': Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of the coal state of West Virginia has reportedly rejected the centerpiece of President Joe Biden's climate agenda in his Build Back Better (BBB) Act, forcing the White House to scramble to rewrite its landmark Clean Electricity Performance Program (CEPP), an innovative policy to accelerate the utility sector's shift to clean energy. The Biden Administration must also find alternative levers to cut carbon pollution fueling the deadly climate crisis just two weeks before the next U.N. climate summit in Glasgow. DR. LEAH STOKES, climate researcher and political scientist at U.C.-Santa Barbara, explains key climate provisions of Biden's Build Back Better Act, ways to counter the obstruction of fossil fuel fan-boy Manchin, other policies and investments that will cut deadly air pollution and emissions at the speed and scale that scientists say is necessary, and also meet our international pledges under the Paris Climate Agreement. Dr. Stokes explains why electrifying all American homes and buildings is necessary to curb fossil fuel usage and cut deadly indoor air pollution, at the same time creating millions of jobs while improving the health of Americans. Stokes says that 'despair is not an option,' and urges voters to 'keep the pressure up,' recommending Call4Climate.com, an online tool that helps callers quickly contact their Congressional representatives, with helpful scripts and more. Also today: Brazilian Congressional panel to recommend 'mass murder' charges against its very Trumpy President, Jair Bolsonaro, for his deadly mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic.
