'BradCast' 1/18/2023 (Guest: Public Citizen's Craig Holman on GOP gutting Office of Congressional Ethics)

01-18-2023 (53.24 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':  With so many Republicans referred for ethics violation investigations, it's no wonder that the first act of the new House Republican majority and Speaker Kevin McCarthy was to gut the critical Office of Congressional Ethics. The House January 6 Committee referred McCarthy for ethics investigations in defying lawful subpoenas, alongside Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) and Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ). Newly-seated pathological liar, George Santos (R-NY) is also under investigation. CRAIG HOLMAN, longtime Government Affairs lobbyist on ethics, lobbying and campaign finance rules for government watchdog group Public Citizen, explains the disturbing consequences of gutting the independent Office of Congressional Ethics and how Republicans have just implemented a 'one-two punch' to shut down any real ethics probes into their activities. Also today: in an attempt to boost his 2024 presidential bid, Virginia Republican Gov. Glen Youngkin killed a proposed electric vehicle battery plant in the state (and the jobs it would have brought) by lying that the Ford Motor Co. facility is somehow a 'front' for the 'Chinese Communist Party.'  The Federal Election Commission levied a steep fine against Kansas' new Republican Attorney General, Kris Kobach, for violating campaign finance laws.
