'BradCast' 10/12/2022 (Guest: Daniel Wolf on how the public can ensure election integrity; Republicans endorse pro-democracy Democrats)

10-12-2022 (53.46 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':  The Republican Party is in dangerous decline, but some long-time Republicans are putting country over party. In a sad, sordid tale, the GOP is exploiting the unstable former football hero and Georgia GOP Senate nominee Hershel Walker for grotesque partisan political purposes. Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL) worries that Walker is 'just one in a long, tragic legacy of disposable black men' for the Republican Party. But some Republicans, like Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Bill Kristol, are calling out the threat that their increasingly authoritarian party now poses to American democracy itself. They are endorsing pro-democracy Democrats in battleground states and funding ad campaigns against election-denier Republican candidates. But the lack of transparency and public oversight of our computerized voting and tabulation systems makes it easy for charlatans to dishonestly claim that elections they lost were stolen. A new, free smart phone app developed by a longtime election integrity expert makes public oversight of elections much easier for concerned citizens. DANIEL WOLF, CEO of non-profit tech company AmericaCounts.us, explains how the free Actual Vote app works, and how it enables voters to document public records at their polling place at closing time. The records can be very helpful in reconciling the final tallies reported by election officials, and spotting fraud or simple programming errors.  Wolf's hope is that broad use of the app will help increase public confidence in election results for both Republicans and Democrats, and 'ignite a war of mutual assured accountability.'
