'BradCast' 5/17/2022 (Primary Day voting problems; Biden condemns 'poison' of white supremacy)

05-17-2022 (53.95 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':  It's Primary Election Day in five states, with several high profile races garnering national attention. Voters in Pennsylvania struggled through major problems with computerized voting systems in some of the state's largest counties - - from faulty electronic pollbooks preventing voters from checking in, to failure-prone touchscreen ballot marking devices, to no-show poll workers. Voters were faced with long lines or prevented from voting for hours, with some undoubtedly unable to vote  all, because election officials chose not to supply precincts with emergency paper ballots or backup paper pollbooks. In Buffalo, NY,  President Biden delivered a eulogy for the 10 victims murdered in a grocery store on Saturday by an 18-year old white supremacist armed with a semi-automatic rifle, explicitly intent on killing Black people. Biden called on the nation to 'reject the lie' of the racist 'replacement theory' trope, and called out the 'hateful minority' who spread the lie 'for power, political gain and for profit,' like Fox News' Tucker Carlson and numerous House Republicans, like GOP House Leadership Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY). 'Evil will not win,' the President vowed in moving and powerful remarks. In a bonkers ruling, a Trump-appointed federal appeals court judge in California struck down a state law banning sales of semiautomatic weapons to those under the age of 21, citing the Revolutionary War.
