'BradCast' 10/25/2021 (Guest: Imperial Beach, CA Mayor Serge Dedina on his lawsuit against Big Oil)

10-25-2021 (53.12 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':  90 million Americans are under threat of severe weather this week, as the most powerful storm in recorded history slams the West Coast, a nor'easter heads for the East Coast, and the Gulf Coast is hit with late season tornadoes.  This is our climate change-fueled future today, and it is going to get worse, according to a new World Meteorological Organization study warning that greenhouse gas emissions hit a new record high in 2020, despite pandemic lockdowns.  Imperial Beach, California MAYOR SERGE DEDINA explains his lawsuit against ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP and 30 other fossil fuel companies, seeking damages to pay for the costs of saving his small, working class coastal town from the ravages of rising sea levels, floods, and more extreme storms intensified by man-made climate change. Dedina details blockbuster investigations that revealed how the oil industry knew for decades that burning their products would cause dangerous global warming, and how the companies spent millions misleading the public and blocking governments from curbing emissions. Exxon has gone after Dedina personally, using legal maneuvers in an attempt to intimidate him to drop the suit. Then:  the latest on the contentious 'sausage-making' as President Biden and Congressional Democrats try to reach a deal with obstructionist, corrupt Democratic Senators Joe Manchin (WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (AZ) to pass his transformative Build Back Better Act.  Callers weigh in on all of the above, calling out who THEY blame for all of the various fine messes in which the nation, and the world, now find ourselves...
