'BradCast' 12/22/2020 (CA's Padilla to U.S. Senate; Iowa U.S. House contest)

12-22-2020 (54.05 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':  California Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed his longtime friend, CA Sec. of State Alex Padilla, to the U.S. Senate to serve out the remainder of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris' term through 2022, where he will be the state's first Latino Senator.  We delve into Padilla's mixed record as California's top elections official - including his dishonest and misleading campaign promoting a major election reform bill that he spearheaded as a state lawmaker, which eliminated the requirement for federal testing of new voting systems and transferred sole power for approval of new systems to the Sec. of State, right before Padilla won the office himself. Election Integrity advocates in the state have concerns regarding Padilla's record, but politically, he will likely be a reliable Democratic place-holder vote in the U.S. Senate. Iowa Democratic Congressional candidate Rita Hart filed an election challenge with the U.S. House, seeking a full, uniform hand-count and an investigation by the Government Accountability Office into her Congressional race that she reportedly lost by only 6 votes out of nearly 400,000 cast. Newsmax becomes the latest rightwing propaganda outlet to suddenly backpedal on their false assertions regarding private voting system vendors Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems, in the wake of both companies demanding retractions and threatening to sue for defamation. Plus Desi Doyen has our latest 'Green News Report.'
