The rightwing president of South Korea attempted a power grab, declaring martial law and attempting to shut down the country's National Assembly, but his self-coup was stopped by quick action and fierce opposition from lawmakers and the public - - providing lessons for Americans in the years ahead. In North Carolina, the Republican-controlled state legislature has launched a power grab before they lose their heavily-gerrymandered supermajority, trying to ram through new laws stripping incoming Democratic statewide office-holders of authority and giving it to themselves. A Wisconsin judge struck down a GOP legislature power grab that stripped public sector workers of their collective bargaining rights.
