'BradCast' 10/28/2021 (Sausage and Oil: Biden touts framework budget bill; Big Oil grilled on climate denial)

10-28-2021 (53.32 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':  Congressional Democrats appear to be one step closer to the end of the endless sausage-making process to get Joe Biden's still-huge, still-transformative Build Back Better Act agenda through to final passage. The current measure, according to a 'framework' released by the White House, will devote $1.75 trillion over ten years to expand social investments in American families and climate action, all fully paid for with increased taxes on the wealthy and other measures. But some progressives on social media are using a broad brush to blame 'the Democrats' for provisions that have been cut from the bill, rather than the two Democrats actually responsible -- Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) -- plus every Congressional Republican. Nearly all of the news coverage has focused on what has been removed from the bill, leaving most Americans unclear about what is actually in it, so today, we air President Biden's full remarks at the White House explaining his transformative legislation. Whether it all remains in the BBB, whether Manchin and Sinema agree to vote for it, and whether the rest of the Democratic caucus agrees to support it in its final form, remains to be seen. Desi Doyen covers key takeaways from a landmark House Oversight Committee hearing in which the CEOs of six Big Oil companies and their major lobbying groups were grilled over the companies' decades of documented, deadly lies about man-made global warming and the millions of dollars they have spent deceiving the American people about it. Plus Desi brings our latest 'Green News Report.'
