'BradCast' 3/30/2021 (Koch 'Dark Money' Group Learns Even Repub Voters Oppose 'Billionaires Buying Elections')

03-30-2021 (53.5 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':  Billionaires trying to buy U.S. elections have a big problem:  newly leaked audio reveals the American public strongly supports Congressional Democrats' popular election and campaign finance reform bill known as H.R. 1, the For The People Act, which would stem the flow of dark money from political donors like the billionaire oil magnate Charles Koch. In leaked conference call audio, a research director for a Koch-run advocacy group concedes that even conservative voters support the bill when they understand that H.R. 1 'stops billionaires from buying elections,' and suggests dark money groups will have to find some other way to undermine Americans' support for democracy reform. Also today: Economists are very excited about the new $3 trillion infrastructure, jobs and clean energy proposal that Joe Biden will roll out in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, projecting it will boost the economy and create millions of new, high-paying jobs in repairing and upgrading the nation's roads, bridges, water systems, electric grids and other critical infrastructure that has been dilapidating for years, hardening it for climate resilience in a dangerously warming world, and much more. We discuss the broad outlines of what is known so far about the Biden's big infrastructure plan and what it could mean for reviving the US economy, still reeling from COVID shutdowns and massive job losses. Civil rights and voting rights groups have filed a third lawsuit in federal court seeking to block Georgia's sweeping new voter suppression bill. Plus Desi Doyen has our latest 'Green News Report'.
