'BradCast' 9/28/2022 (Guest: Tom Bonier of TargetSmart on 2022 midterm election; Hurricane Ian smashes records in FL)

09-28-2022 (53.15 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':  Hurricane Ian crashed ashore on the southwestern coast of Florida on Wednesday as a Category 4 storm, falling just shy of Cat 5.  Ian also collapsed the electric grid of the entire island of Cuba. Hurricane Ian's landfall near Fort Myers, FL brought torrential rains, damaging high winds, and a record storm surge as high as 18 feet in some places. The National Hurricane Center forecasts Ian will unleash unprecedented rainfall as it slowly tracks across Florida, then may potentially make a second landfall in Georgia or the Carolinas toward week's end. Then: New polling finds that while Democrats are still likely to lose their current razor-thin majority in the U.S. House in the November midterm elections, the projected margin of loss is decreasing with each passing month in the wake of the US Supreme Court's decision to strip women of their reproductive rights. TOM BONIER of TargetSmart, a Democratic data analysis firm, explains new data gleaned from the landslide victory for abortion rights in deep red Kansas during what would normally be a very low-turnout midterm primary election. Bonier says the new research suggests polls may be underestimating voter engagement in the upcoming election, especially among young women voters, and massive voter turnout has the potential to upend conventional wisdom about midterm elections. Also today:  Donald Trump has reportedly sidelined his very expensive new lawyer in the Justice Department's criminal investigation into thousands of documents Trump stole from the White House.
