'BradCast' 9/14/2021: (Repubs Threaten 'War' Over CA Recall and COVID, Dems Threaten Voting Rights for All)

On today's 'BradCast': It's Recall Election Day in California, with no major reports of voting problems at the polls so far. But for days, rightwing talk show host and GOP front-runner Larry Elder has already been busy lying about 'fraud' and the 'twisted results of this 2021 recall election,' even though there aren't any results yet. A group of Senate Democrats announced a new compromise election and voting reform package filled with meaningful policies - - the 'Freedom To Vote Act' guarantees automatic and same-day voter registration for all, federal minimum standards for absentee voting, early voting and drop boxes, an end to partisan gerrymandering, curbs on dark money in elections and much, much more. Conservative Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who worked out the proposal, must now get at least ten GOP votes for passage or face the prospect of achieving no election protection at all - - or he could finally support filibuster reform with a specific carve-out for 'democracy reconciliation.' Another anti-vaccine rightwing radio host has died from COVID. A wildly misinformed 64-year old anti-vaccine QAnon supporter who bragged last month about refusing to wear a mask has also died, after disgraced Trump attorney Lin Wood exploited her case to threaten hospital workers with 'murder' charges unless they treated her with ivermectin, a medicine not approved for COVID treatment.
