'BradCast' 8/13/2021 (Guest: Energy reporter David Roberts on pivotal U.S. climate policy)

08-13-2021 (53.36 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':  NOAA announced that July 2021 was the hottest July globally in recorded history, underscoring the necessity for swift U.S. climate action. DAVID ROBERTS, publisher of the Volts newsletter on energy and climate, explains two key measures in the Democrats' $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation blueprint, and why he is virtually begging the environmental center and left to unite for what he says is our last, best chance for meaningful climate policy in the U.S. for the next decade.  Roberts explains the pivotal importance of Clean Electricity Standard (CES) and clean energy tax credits in the reconciliation bill, which together would revolutionize the U.S. electricity system, as the core strategy for decarbonization, 'the sector that is going to clean up all the other sectors'. Roberts discusses the complex political dynamics at play, the risk factors that could sink both bills and decimate U.S. climate policy, and the enormous stakes for all Americans. Roberts says that intense public pressure is crucial, and the best way to ensure passage is to CALL lawmakers to push for the specific climate provisions that are on the table – especially the Clean Electricity Standard. 'This is crunch time, he warns. 'We need to be coordinated and speaking in a single voice. Specifically the Clean Electricity Standard. That's the core.' Also today: A quick follow-up on our exclusive reporting on the serious security breach that occurred at MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell's bat-crap insane 'cyber symposium,' when someone released data containing Dominion Voting System's actual election management software. Cybersecurity experts are very seriously concerned about the breach's impacts on upcoming elections around the country, including the California gubernatorial recall election next month.
