'BradCast' 10/29/2020 (Our Cold Civil War on Democracy continues, with some victories for the pro-democracy forces)

10-29-2020 (54.34 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':   We are now embroiled in a Cold Civil War on Democracy in this nation -- the greatest direct threat to our constitutional republic that we have faced since the Civil War. The threat emanates not from a foreign power, but the President of the United States and his party of henchmen and supporters who are attacking the very core of our republic: the right to vote and to have that vote counted as cast. Republicans are using every trick, legal and extra-legal, to prevent legal voters from voting and their ballots from being counted, with the help of their stolen U.S. Supreme Court. They may pull it off unless pro-democracy forces are able to overwhelm them between now and Election Day on Nov. 3rd. Our trench warfare coverage continues: Florida's Trumpy Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis discovered someone changed his voter registration data. In Minnesota, a federal judge has blocked a mercenary contractor's attempt to post armed para-militia at polling places, in violation of federal voter intimidation laws, and ordered them to reveal the identity of their financial backer. In Texas, a Trump-appointed federal judge has invalidated Republican Gov. Greg Abbott's orders exempting voters and pollworkers from wearing masks at polling places. In Harris County (Houston), 2020 early voter turnout has surpassed turnout in the entire 2016 election, thanks to expanded and innovative voting options -- naturally, state Republicans have filed a new lawsuit seeking to invalidate more than 100,000 already lawfully cast votes. Vermont's Sec. of State asked the US Supreme Court to correct factual errors about the state's voting laws in an appalling opinion written by Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
