'BradCast' 8/17/2021 (Avoiding the Memory Hole on Afghanistan, climate; Serious election security breach in CO)

08-17-2021 (53.79 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':   In 2001, Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) was the only member of Congress to vote against going to war in Afghanistan. Lee's sage words still ring true today, as President Biden stands by his decision to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan after 20 years, finally bringing an end to America's longest war. The majority of the U.S. public supports withdrawal, but not the hand-wringing D.C. media punditry, which seems to be falling over itself to declare Joe Biden's presidency a disaster following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. There is very little reason to believe far-right radical Taliban leaders' new P.R. blitz claiming they will respect women's rights and not retaliate against detractors and journalists. An update on the serious voting system data breach in Colorado:  Sec. of State Jenna Griswold (D-CO) issued a press release announcing that a criminal investigation is underway into the chief elections official in Mesa County for allegedly violating multiple security protocols. But top voting security experts are dubious about Griswold's vague assertion that the U.S. Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) 'does not view this breach as a significant heightening of the election risk landscape at this point.' Also today:  vaccinated Texas Gov. Greg Abbot has tested positive for COVID after barring local school districts and governments from imposing mask mandates to protect children under 12 who cannot get vaccinated. A 1912 news article accurately warns that burning coal will cause global warming. Plus Desi Doyen has our latest 'Green News Report.'
