'BradCast' 2/2/2021 (Biden, Dems Not Falling for GOP 'Austerity' Con Again - So Far)

On today's 'BradCast': President Joe Biden and Congressional Democratic leaders don't appear to be falling for Republicans' pretense that they are concerned about spending and deficits again now that a Democrat is in the White House. Republicans are complaining that President Biden's $1.9 trillion emergency COVID relief and stimulus proposal is too big, but they had no such concerns when they gave away much more with their $2.3 trillion tax cuts to the rich and corporations during the Trump Administration. Economists studying 18 developed nations over a fifty year period between 1965-2015 found conclusively that tax cuts for the rich did not result improved economic outcomes, did not reduce unemployment or improve GDP, and only succeeded in making the already-rich even wealthier while increasing economic inequality, including in the U.S. The Biden White House, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are moving ahead with passing much-needed economic relief under Budget Reconciliation procedures that require only a simple majority vote in the Senate. Before Trump's unprecedented 2nd Senate impeachment trial gets underway next week, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) detailed, for the first time, her harrowing experience during the deadly Jan. 6 MAGA Mob attack at the US Capitol that was incited by Trump. House Democrats submitted their pre-trial filings, detailing a graphic, detailed, painstakingly-documented argument for Trump's conviction for inciting the insurrection. Trump's lawyers filed a largely limp legal brief in response, filled with false claims, making it clear that Trump hopes Senate Republicans remain cowed and in his thrall, afraid of the wrath of his brain-poisoned supporters.
