'BradCast' 11/17/2021 (Guest: Jon Schwarz of The Intercept deflates inflation panic)

11-17-2021 (53.31 MB)

On today's 'BradCast':  Yes, inflation is real, but the panic around it is wildly inflated and horribly misreported by the corporate media. The media are largely ignoring undeniably positive news about the surging economy, instead offering panicked, breathless reports on new inflation numbers (which economists say are related to pandemic disruptions). West Virginia's obstructionist Democratic Senator Joe Manchin is using inflation panic to stall or kill President Biden's Build Back Better Act, even though economists say it will not cause inflation and will bring economic relief to working Americans. JON SCHWARZ of The Intercept explains how and why inflation can actually be good for working families, in part by reducing the burden of household debt, and how it is bad for corporations and big banks, cutting into the profits of the richest Americans, and why the corporate media is misleading the public by amplifying inflation fears. Also today:  The so-called 'QAnon Shaman' Jacob Chansley was sentenced to more than three years in prison for his role in the Trump-incited attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6. The U.S. House censured far-right Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) for posting a violent animated video in which he appeared to murder Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). President Biden directed the Federal Trade Commission to investigate potentially 'illegal conduct' by oil companies that may be inflating gas prices, even as their profits have risen and refinery costs have fallen.  Sen. Bernie Sanders explains how the massive annual increase in the Defense Department's budget proves the lie that conservatives are concerned about the national debt/deficit.
