Somehow overlooked by Drudge, but reported by AP<\/i><\/a>:<\/p>\n

Some Iraqi nuclear facilities appear to be unguarded, and radioactive materials are being taken out of the country, the U.N.’s nuclear watchdog agency reported after reviewing satellite images and equipment that has turned up in European scrapyards.<\/div>\n

Now, the United States is responsible<\/i> (legally – you know, Geneva Convention and all) for the security of a soveriegn nation that we are currently occupying. And, as I recall, one of the reasons (that later wasn’t really the reason at all, but never mind…) it was so important for us to go into Iraq was to ensure they didn’t share their WMD technology or materials with others who wanted to harm us.<\/p>\n

But now we’re not even guarding these facilities? And radioactive materials are getting out of the country?<\/p>\n

According to [International Atomic Energy Association Chief, Mohammad] ElBaradei’s letter, satellite imagery shows “extensive removal of equipment and in some instances, removal of entire buildings,” in Iraq.<\/p>\n

In addition, “large quanitities of scrap, some of it contaminated, have been transfered out of Iraq from sites” previously monitored by the IAEA.<\/p><\/div>\n
