{"id":7728,"date":"2010-03-04T15:51:23","date_gmt":"2010-03-04T23:51:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=7728"},"modified":"2010-03-05T09:39:56","modified_gmt":"2010-03-05T17:39:56","slug":"acorn-strikes-back-accountability-campaign-demands-media-corrections-for-pimp-hoax-coverage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=7728","title":{"rendered":"ACORN Strikes Back! &#8216;Accountability&#8217; Campaign Demands Media Corrections for &#8216;Pimp&#8217; Hoax Stories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/salsa.wiredforchange.com\/o\/2749\/blastContent.jsp?email_blast_KEY=62844&#038;t=\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/BradBlog.com\/Images\/ACORN_DemandAccountability_PimpHoax.png\" hspace=\"6\" vspace=\"3\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\"><\/a>Following on our weeks-long coverage here at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.BradBlog.com\">The BRAD BLOG<\/a>, and at other sites who&#8217;ve similarly jumped in demanding accountability from the <i>New York Times<\/i>, ACORN itself is now launching a &#8220;Letter to the Editor&#8221; campaign to &#8220;Demand Accountability&#8221; from the paper for their repeated misreporting of the James O&#8217;Keefe\/Andrew Breitbart ACORN &#8220;pimp&#8221; hoax.<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"http:\/\/salsa.wiredforchange.com\/o\/2749\/blastContent.jsp?email_blast_KEY=62844&#038;t=\">email blast<\/a> is being sent to &#8220;over 100,000 ACORN supporters&#8221; today, according to spokesman Kevin Whelan, calling on them to &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/salsa.wiredforchange.com\/o\/2749\/t\/4538\/letter\/?letter_KEY=601\"><b>send an email to the Times&#8217; Public Editor and tell him to retract the Times&#8217; erroneous reporting about O&#8217;Keefe and ACORN<\/b><\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The community group&#8217;s heavily-footnoted email blast, signed by &#8220;CEO and Chief Organizer&#8221; Bertha Lewis, quotes several articles from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.BradBlog.com\">The BRAD BLOG&#8217;s<\/a> detailed coverage, including <i>NYTimes<\/i> Public Editor Clark Hoyt&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=7715\">outrageous emailed justifications<\/a> for refusing to recommend the paper correct its multiple misreports.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/salsa.wiredforchange.com\/o\/2749\/t\/4538\/letter\/?letter_KEY=601\"><strong>Can you tell Clark Hoyt, The New York Times&#8217; Public Editor, that The Times needs to retract its past ACORN stories and report the truth about the anti-ACORN sting operation from now on?<\/strong><\/a>&#8221; the email campaign asks [<em>emphasis in original<\/em>] before chiding Hoyt for refusal to &#8220;see that a correction is in order, because that would require conclusive evidence that The Times was wrong, which I haven&#8217;t seen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\">The BRAD BLOG<\/a>, however, has indeed shown &#8220;conclusive evidence&#8221; to Hoyt that the paper was wrong, and <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=7708\">even Hannah Giles<\/a> (who played the fake prostitute) and <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=7719\">even Andrew Breitbart<\/a> (who published the videos to help launch his new BigGovernment.com website) have both now admitted that the reports of James O&#8217;Keefe dressing as a &#8220;pimp&#8221; in the offices of ACORN were flat out wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Whelan says the group is &#8220;asking people to contact either the New York Times OR their local paper and ask for a correction to the erroneous reporting regarding O&#8217;Keefe and his video scams.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Bradblog and a handful of online writers have been way ahead in looking at the facts on this story,&#8221; Whelan wrote, &#8220;just as you were in exposing the great voter fraud fraud in 2006.&#8221;  (Our indexed coverage of <i>that<\/i> particular Rightwing fraud campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/ACORN\">is here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>More from Whelan&#8217;s email to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.BradBlog.com\">The BRAD BLOG<\/a>:<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">We are asking people to contact papers all around the country because nearly everyone has reported on this story erroneously at some point-O&#8217;Keefe&#8217;s purpose after all, was to deceive and confuse. The New York Times has a special responsibility to correct the facts though-both as the paper of record and because they reported based on a combination of wild misconceptions (as they admitted to you) and pressure from the radical right.<\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/salsa.wiredforchange.com\/o\/2749\/blastContent.jsp?email_blast_KEY=62844&#038;t=\">ACORN email blast to supporters<\/a> also notes that the <i>New York Daily News<\/i> had the decency <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/ny_crime\/2010\/03\/01\/2010-03-01_bklyn_acorn_cleared_over_giving_illegal_advice_on_how_to_hide_money_from_prostit.html\">to report<\/a> on a law enforcement source who noted Monday that &#8220;they edited the tape to meet their agenda,&#8221; following the conclusion of the Brooklyn D.A.&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=7721\">finding of &#8220;no criminality&#8221;<\/a> after a five-month investigation of Brooklyn ACORN tapes. <\/p>\n<p>Moreover, even <i>Rupert Murdoch&#8217;s<\/i> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/p\/news\/local\/brooklyn\/acorn_set_up_by_vidiots_da_x16IroTf4AsXCI19nttFLL\"><i>New York Post<\/i> reported on the finding<\/a>, noting the D.A. described the video as a &#8220;&#8216;heavily edited&#8217; splice job&#8221; where &#8220;many of the seemingly crime-encouraging answers were taken out of context so as to appear more sinister.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And yet, the <i>New York Times<\/i>, the &#8220;paper of record,&#8221; continues to misreport the story, even in the wake of the D.A.&#8217;s finding, as <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=7724\">we detailed last night<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/salsa.wiredforchange.com\/o\/2749\/blastContent.jsp?email_blast_KEY=62844&#038;t=\"><b>Please read ACORN&#8217;s full letter, and sign onto their accountability campaign right here&#8230;<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And please spread the word by DIGGing, REDDITing, RE-TWEETing, etc!<\/p>\n<p><!--BB-DONATEPITCH-START--><\/p>\n<div style=\"background:#f5f0e0; border:2px solid #6b5a2e; border-radius:6px; padding:10px 14px; text-align:center; font-family:Georgia,serif;\"><span style=\"display:block; margin:0 0 8px 0; color:#3a2e0e; font-size:0.95em; line-height:1.5;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.BradBlog.com\">The BRAD BLOG<\/a> covers your electoral system, fiercely and independently, like no other media outlet in the nation.
