{"id":7511,"date":"2009-11-10T14:20:23","date_gmt":"2009-11-10T22:20:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=7511"},"modified":"2009-11-10T15:47:00","modified_gmt":"2009-11-10T23:47:00","slug":"just-looking-out-for-the-tax-payers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=7511","title":{"rendered":"Just Looking Out for the Tax-Payers&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s this: <a href=\"http:\/\/rawstory.com\/2009\/11\/kbr-poisoned-100000-lawsuit\/\">KBR\/Halliburton may have poisoned 100,000 in Iraq&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">Defense contractor KBR may have exposed as many as 100,000 people, including US troops, to cancer-causing toxins by burning waste in open-air pits in Iraq, says a series of class-action lawsuits filed against the company.<\/p>\n<p>At least 22 separate lawsuits claiming KBR poisoned American soldiers in Iraq have been combined into a single massive lawsuit that says KBR, which until not long ago was a subsidiary of Halliburton, sought to save money by disposing of toxic waste and incinerating numerous potentially harmful substances in open-air &#8220;burn pits.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>And now this: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601109&#038;sid=a4yV1nYxCGoA&#038;pos=10\">Pfizer broke the law by promoting drugs for unapparoved uses&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">Prosecutor Michael Loucks remembers clearly when lawyers for Pfizer Inc., the world&#8217;s largest drug company, looked across the table and promised it wouldn&#8217;t break the law again.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nIn the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/2004\/May\/04_civ_322.htm\">agreement<\/a> the lawyers eventually hammered out, the Pfizer unit, Warner-Lambert, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of marketing a drug for unapproved uses.<\/p>\n<p>New York-based Pfizer agreed to pay <a href=\"http:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/2004\/May\/04_civ_322.htm\">$430 million<\/a> in criminal fines and civil penalties, and the company&#8217;s lawyers assured Loucks and three other prosecutors that Pfizer and its units would stop promoting drugs for unauthorized purposes.<\/p>\n<p>What Loucks, who&#8217;s now acting U.S. attorney in Boston, didn&#8217;t know until years later was that Pfizer managers were breaking that pledge not to practice so-called off-label marketing even before the ink was dry on their plea.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We must stop those those fuckers from ACORN <i>immediately<\/i>! It&#8217;s an outrage!<\/p>\n<p><i><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong><\/i> Just in: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenation.com\/doc\/20091123\/scahill\">Blackwater attempted to bribe Iraq with $1 million (tax-payer dollars!) after Nisour Square Massacre<\/a> and owner Erik Prince knew about it.
