{"id":7498,"date":"2009-11-03T21:05:27","date_gmt":"2009-11-04T05:05:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=7498"},"modified":"2009-11-03T21:32:16","modified_gmt":"2009-11-04T05:32:16","slug":"your-election-night-2009-hiccups-glitches-snags-and-snafus-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=7498","title":{"rendered":"Your Election Night 2009 &#8216;Hiccups&#8217; &#8216;Glitches&#8217; &#8216;Snags&#8217; and &#8216;Snafus&#8217; Report&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/BradBlog.com\/Images\/Election2009.jpg\" hspace=\"6\" vspace=\"3\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\">We&#8217;re watching results as they&#8217;re coming in tonight, while continuing to comb through various problem reports as they&#8217;ve been coming in throughout the day (the usual &#8220;hiccups&#8221; &#8220;glitches&#8221; &#8220;snags&#8221; and &#8220;snafus&#8221; reportage &#8212; anything but the proper word for them all: &#8220;failure&#8221;!)<\/p>\n<p>As we always find necessary to remind readers on such nights, the bulk of election failures tend to reveal themselves in the hours and days &#8212; and sometimes even weeks &#8212; <i>after<\/i> Election Day. <\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, of the most potential note that we&#8217;ve seen so far today &#8212; though mostly downplayed as minor &#8220;glitches&#8221; in most of the stories reporting them &#8212; we&#8217;ve found reports of: Diebold touch-screen machine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.daytondailynews.com\/news\/election\/voting-going-smoothly-officials-report-380697.html\">failure in OH&#8217;s Montgomery and Greene Counties<\/a>; new e-pollbooks <a href=\"http:\/\/www.suffolknewsherald.com\/news\/2009\/nov\/03\/technical-glitches-hinder-election\/\">failing in Suffolk County, NY<\/a>; new Sequoia\/Dominion optical-scan systems <a href=\"http:\/\/www.watertowndailytimes.com\/article\/20091103\/BLOGS09\/911039956\">failing in St. Lawrence County, NY<\/a>, and; Sequoia touch-screen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2009\/11\/voting-machine_problems_crop_u.html\">failures in Essex, Somerset and Goucester Counties, NJ<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, turnout has been light today, so the problems that have cropped up <i>seem<\/i> to have been handled by quickly replacing machines (a luxury available during slow, off-year elections when there are extra machines to go around) or in such a way that delays &#8212; and the voter disenfranchisement that goes with them &#8212; were minimal. At least as so far reported.<\/p>\n<p>Whether any of the results tabulated in secret, with secret software, are actually accurate, well, that&#8217;s anyone&#8217;s guess as usual. In any case, we&#8217;re monitoring, and will let ya know if there&#8217;s anything you need to know about. Please feel free to let <i>us<\/i> know about anything <i>you<\/i> think we should know about in comments.<\/p>\n<p>Other than that, we&#8217;re just stunned that ACORN did such a <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2009\/11\/new-jersey-christie-wins-after-neck-and-neck-race.php?ref=fpban\">terrible job<\/a>, yet again, at <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2009\/11\/acorn_were_not_even_working_in_new_jersey.php?ref=mblt\">&#8220;stealing the election&#8221; in New Jersey<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>UPDATE 9:29pm PT:<\/strong><\/em> New Sequoia op-scan systems <a href=\"http:\/\/www.9wsyr.com\/news\/local\/story\/Fulton-County-machines-break-court-order-issued\/dSY52Bssm0iYlGz06S7Chg.cspx\">fail in Fulton County, NY<\/a> and are impounded by court order. Emergency paper ballots are used.
