{"id":6996,"date":"2009-03-18T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-03-18T21:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=6996"},"modified":"2009-03-18T14:08:14","modified_gmt":"2009-03-18T21:08:14","slug":"i-dont-care-about-aigs-bonuses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=6996","title":{"rendered":"I Don&#8217;t Care About AIG&#8217;s Bonuses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/BradBlog.com\/Images\/AIG_BFD.gif\" hspace=\"6\" vspace=\"3\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\">I guess I&#8217;m just in the minority here, but I&#8217;m having a bit of trouble getting exercised about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/story\/0,2933,509626,00.html\">$165 million<\/a> (just to put that into perspective, the movie sequel <i>The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian<\/i> had a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-numbers.com\/movies\/2008\/NARN2.php\">budget of $200 million<\/a>) in bonuses to AIG employees.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, it&#8217;s a shame that approximately one-tenth of one-percent of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2008\/10\/31\/aigs-bailout-total-rises_n_139561.html\">$144 billion made available<\/a> to the company by the federal government in bailout monies went to such bonuses, but where is all the furor from public officials, media outlets and bloggers &#8212; from both Right and Left &#8212; over the 12 <i><b>b<\/b>illions<\/i> of dollars (with a &#8220;b&#8221;) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/headlines07\/0208-02.htm\">sent over to Iraq<\/a> as pallets of cash (literally, shrink-wrapped $100 bills), which then simply disappeared into that <b>t<\/b>rillion (with a &#8220;t&#8221;) dollar rat hole without accounting or explanation?<\/p>\n<p>Where is the outrage and <i>accountability<\/i> there? Nowhere.<\/p>\n<p>How about the $4 billion (with a &#8220;b&#8221;) that went to the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002 to purchase privately made electronic voting systems which don&#8217;t work and <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=6995\">don&#8217;t meet the federal standards<\/a> it was claimed that they did?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s curious, but not particularly surprising by now, the stuff that folks in Congress get selectively pissed off about, the stuff that media (both mainstream and blogosphere) go selectively wall-to-wall over, versus the stuff they don&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll pardon me if I&#8217;m not particularly moved much at all by the latest round of AIG <em>sturm-und-drang<\/em>, hand-wringing, navel-gazing, finger-pointing and speechifying. Oh, and about the still-free bin Laden, and the still-free anthrax killer&#8230;well, don&#8217;t get me started.
